Why is it bad on a pump to run it out of water? I've done in the past and get grief for it!!! Ive never done it for very long as my motor runs on gas not alcohol!! But I've never had any problems....

I think its bc the jet has thrust bearings that can go bad if there isnt pressure on them. I am not sure so i am sure someone else will chime in

there is about .030 clearance between the impellor and wear ring and when the contact well you get the idea

don't do it.

I fire mine up now and then for small adjustments and run water through it. I dont let it run long and its been fine for years of doing this.

I used to run a water hose through the pump for engine adjustiments. Now I always fire up in water after spending the cash to have pump re-built. My pump builder recommended it. Maybe so I don't blame him for jack'in my pump up? :screwy:
