Wondering what you guys think.. Is the wear on this shaft okay, or should it be replaced. The bowl as well. Im looking at buying a shaft end repair as I mentioned a while ago. There is also a repair kit for "frozen" bowls.. Not sure what that means. Both require machine work, which I have access to. Just looking for some input before I buy something I dont need, or wont fix an actual problem.

Doesn't look bad to me in the pics, you can always take a micrometer to it and measure if there is any significant difference between the area where the bearing/seals are and the part of the shaft adjacent to those areas. Was it leaking? The area where the bowl seal goes looks like it might be worn a touch but if it's not leaking then I would just go with a new seal and call it a day. As far as frozen bowls that probably refers to something that had water in it, froze, and cracked. I think they make a greasable insert/sleeve that goes into a bowl where the bearings go, after the bowl is machined of course. I'd replace the bowl bearings since you have it out.

The bowl bearings were paper thin, and just wobbled in the bowl, and on the end of the shaft.. The bowl bearings are more like a sleeve or collar.. right.? My boat took on a ton of water, only while running. I assumed it was leaking through the packing, but could not get the boat started after noticing.

Yes, they are like a sleeve, I believe the proper term is cutlass bearing. They aren't expensive or hard to get, I'd just give Tom at Jetboat Performance a call, don't know where you are but that's where I buy my stuff. How were the packing seals? That would be something else I'd replace. If they were hard as a rock that would definitely cause a leak, although there are other areas, around the transom seal, how are the hoses, etc.

Your shaft actually looks really good in the pics. I just rebuilt my American Turbine pump. The shaft mic'd at 1.120" at the minimum. I fretted about replacing it, then contacted AT. They said to run it. So I polished it and put it back together. Berk pumps use the same bearings.
Your shaft looks almost new where the bearings run. I can't even see any grooves. I think the shafts measure 1.123" when new. And the bearings are called "DU" bearings. Unfortunately, no one makes a slightly under-sized bearing to allow us to salvage worn (as in worse-than-mine) shafts.
