Title: Shaft Play...
Post by: The Chaz on March 14, 2009, 01:03:21 PM
This is a real jet pump question Omar  >:D

How much, if any, should there be?  I removed the bowl, and when I grab the impeller shaft it has  "up and down" play.  Maybe 1/4".

A Berkeley has no preload on the mian bearing so the bowl bearings take up the "slop, I don't think there is a spec for bearing end play, but at 1/4" I would be a little leary of the impeller to wear ring clearance (unless of course the impeller is removed  ;) )

My thoughts exactly, there shouldnt be anywhere that much play with the impellor in the wear ring.

If you need to get it together right away, lemme know, still got an assembled pump ready to roll.. ;)

Looks to me like you will find more Gremlins about...bowl problems and whatnot...

I "feel" that it could be fixed, however, I dont know how deep the scratches can go so I really dont know.  I am guessing a clean up and a new wear ring and it would be fine.  Throw on an new impeller and some bearings and it would be good to go.  I am replacing it so if anyone needs parts... ;)
