Got out on my first river trip this year and my boat spun out on me twice no clue what's going on. Never had an issue before. Only thing I can think of is the new motor is a lot lighter then the old and the boat isn't sitting in the water enough when making turns. Old motor was a all stock Hardin marine 454 cast iron heads and cast iron intake manifold. New motor 454 with aluminum heads and intake manifold. Boat has a JE pump. If anyone has an idea on what it could be or what I can do to fix it please let me know.

I doubt seriously it has anything to do with the 90 pound diet.
Under what conditions did she come around?
Does your intake have fins?
Place Diverter?
Where are your fuel tanks located? How much crap did you have in the boat?

I have 2 15gal tanks both full one each side. Nothing in the boat besides myself and 2 other people. No place diverter pump is stock for 1987

I have a 1990 Dana mini 19' with the 12je and yep it spins out on me specialty if the turn skeg is off the pump. And really bad if you don't have a center hull skeg. Even with all that, when I was young and would drive it real hard it would spin out even with the skegs. With out it was like driving a sprint car.

I see your turn fin is off is that because your working on the pump?
I got my Dana in 1993 it was only 3 years old. I still have it but don't use it much since I got the CP

Check and see if your loader is falling off..
-
I'm not sure about Chaosmotox's Dana but my Dana does not have a "intake" to bolt a loader on to. The intake is the hull it's very different then your normal intake that the 12jg has. So there is no loader or intake with the 2 little fins. It only has a grill to keep big junk out of the pump. I keep mine in AZ or I would get a picture for some of you to see because it's very different.
So my question Chaosmotox is do you have the center hull skeg? Because that will fix the spin out. I also would like to know if you do have a intake and if so send us all a pick because I would like to fix that in my Dana some day. I never liked the 12je because you can't add a droop or Placediverter controls or a loader. But if any one knows of part numbers for me to add all this please share. Thanks and happy boating guys

If I am not mistaken you can add a diverter just the same that you can add one to a JC, however you will need a different style bracket that Place sells.

I wasn't running it with the rudder on the pump but I don't think that would make it spin out and yes you can add a place diverter to a JE pump.

My old Circus Boat had a JE that was converted to JC/G style controls. Made adding a diverter much easier, got rid of those pesky accordion boot leaks and made adding a split bowl and droop much easier. Hi-Tech makes a shoe/ride plate combo I ran that worked rather well. If you've lightened the stern, the bias is now further forward making spinning out easier. Add a diverter then test. A turning fin is a last resort bandaid.

U need a jg split bowl and add a droop snoot so it sits down it the water u shouldn't have a problem after that but that's just my .02

Got the pump rebuilt by B1 racing. Added a place diverter and custom ride plate. Let see if this works.

That B1 billet ride plate is a piece of art! He sure does amazing work. Hope it solves the problem.

Did you install the ride plate? How did it work?

Not yet the boat isn't done yet. Haven't had time to work on it.
