Title: Steering cable
Post by: TahitiMoeDoe on June 11, 2018, 08:29:06 AM
Morning All,
I’m getting ready to replace steering cable on boat, Hard to turn with cable detached from jet. Couple questions before i start, with the cable detached when i move the jet left to right it wants to move back to the left. Is this normal? Second moving steering wheel left to right its 3 ways lock, how do i know center when installing new cable? Thanks still new to owning boat but can wrench on anything..

As far as the jet, check the steering pins and bushings.

On the rack and pinion steering, if it's 3 turns lock to lock, center it at 1.5 turns, and then put it through the steering sleeve that's on the transom adapter. Adjust the steering sleeve so the cable end lines up with the steering arm in the jet, jet being centered, too.
