Title: Time for a diverter

Happy Holidays All:
I have a 455/12JC and am ready to add a Place diverter.  It seems that the addition of a diverter is the best single improvement for jets.  Looking for experienced opinions on whether I should go hydraulic or manual.  I am kinda leaning to hyd. to keep the floor clean.  Also whos got the best price on em?

ok, I see... just need the cylinder and pump.  Still looking for any pros/cons about mechanical or hydraulic

And a new tiller arm . The hydro and man. tiller arms are diffrent .

The only pro is the lack of the lever in the cockpit, the cons as far as I'm concerened is the added electrical headache and they move too damn fast, which I used a restrictor to slow it down but still hated it...

Exactly, the "all up" to "all down" took less than a couple seconds, a little hard to "dial in", I hated ours, I finally converted it to a manual version and built an "override pedal" for it, loved it.

This was about 2001, so they may have slowed them down some, I don't know, I'll never do another hydraulic though.

I just ordered mine this morning from Tom at JBP.  The man is a walking encyclopedia of jets, and he is super easy to talk to.  And the price was awesome to boot!  Thanks Tom, you made my Christmas!

mechanical = one more thing to break
one more broken part =  one more reason to drink
one more reason to drink =  who gives a shit lets drink ;D >:D


manual was my choice for ease of instalation and less chance for breakage, although the new owner sure found a way to break it :banghead:

when the hydraulic gets stuck in the up or down position your forked, ask me how i know :banghead: i converted my other one by drilling out the tiller arm for the set screw. i still have the stuck pump as well. i will never use it again :mad:

I have both and prefer the manuel . The hyd. switch is hideous . Mounting is another headache to figure out , routing hoses and such . I went with the hydrolic on my cruiser cuz I didnt want a lever on the floor either , the only plus as far as I'm concerned .

I went with the hyd. and I love it. Got a switch from JBP to mount on the steering wheel, easy to use. I bought mine directly from Place in La Habra. The one pro they told me about when I bought it was that you dont have a problem with the cable stretching with the hyd. that you do with the manual one. Thats why the warranty on the manual one was like only 3 years compared to lifetime (I think) with the hyd. one. Just my .02.  Mounting it was a little bit of a pain, but really no big deal

I am guessing you gotta drill holes for the hydraulic lines?  is there a picture on here I could see?

you dont have to but, the lines would be going over the transom :o If you decide to go with steel braided lines then you need a long bulk head fitting that only sweet performance makes s/s of course ;) not too bad in price, (20 each) i think ??? sorry no pics

Thanks for the compliment.  I only have one photo of the pump and it doesn't have the lines hooked up.  I mounted the plastic mounting clip to the transom.

Wow ! my work has been done here You guys have explained the pros and cons well ! the sales of diverter packages splits about 60/40 in favor Manual systems  (mostly due to cost I belive) I personally favor manuals but some boats due to seating proximity and space and truthfully very fast boats (that require hands on the wheel) like the hydrualic units . Re hyd lines Place used to sell "Cherry line kits" but quit offering them last year , we ,JBP now sell  "outside  only or complete braided line kits (made to order) Tom

tom you hit the nail on the head, when i got my through transome fittings they had a cherry on them. and i got them from sweet performance. he said they stopped making them so he started.

The Plastic line kits are very durable and work well but the Stnls are super clean and will with stand pretty much anything Ralph thanks for the info I'll check out Sweets
