Title: Tips and Tricks to Modify the Jacuzzi 12WJ Jet Pump.
Post by: 1977 charger on May 10, 2011, 07:41:37 PM
Has anyone ever written the modifications done to these Performance Pumps from back in the day?
Some of these pumps have gone over 100mph and I'm not talking about the ones gutted and Berkley internals fitted. I'm very curious to know just what people did to make them more efficient using Jacuzzi parts.

Had the impeller detailed at MPD (Stainless), New wear ring, shimmed the impy tighter than factory specs, cut off nozzle off bowl (had a place diverter), Filed veins in bowl, sanded w/1500grit in the suction housing and intake, gasket matched intake to suction housing, turned(tapered) the sand plug (?) from 1"+ down to less than .75", bowl already had stuffer plate, filed the rock grate (from square to "knife edged", top and bottom)

I dont know how much was the pump, the orig. 454 (Indmar marine, logs and snails) turned 4400,(50+/-?) then the pump work and a mild build turned 5500, (heads, pistons, 292ah? cam, bassets, holley, vic.jr., etc) 71.8, gps'd on the river.

Thats all I got

Can you tell me what we can do to the bowl to make these more efficient? Any chance you can take some photos? I really would like to know what and how to re-work these Jacuzzi Pumps. I'm an old school Hot Rodder and Drag Racer. I prefer to do all my own work when possible. I have a Mill and a Lathe and most other Fabricating equipment. I'm not trying to steal anyone's business, I just want to learn how to make these pumps better. Kind of from the Hot Rodders point of view.

Let me talk to the shop who did it and ask if I am allowed to take pics. (Some shops are very secretive when it comes to pump work)

Good lord. If I didn't see the pink there's no way I would have thought that's the same WJ bowl.

What are you using for a nozzle assembly.

I would lose too much water between the steering housing and my Place diverter nozzle to allow that much of the bowl to be removed.  :o

they arent the same bowl...looks like a comparison photo of what is was, and what it can be! i now see that the jacuzzi is lacking in the vane category, learn something new everyday! im glad it was an accident that all of my jetboats i bought were equipped with berkeley or better  ;)

I have an adapter pate that fits on the end which would allow me to bolt up a Droop. If I were to stick back on the orginial WJ Adapter it would leak like a Mofo.

I was thinking about what you two said then bam i understand! Not enough clamping pressure with 4 bolts! You gouys could probably do that mod but leave a 1/4 inch or so to slide into the adapter right?

My brothers WJ has had the 4 bolt face machined and a berkeley style adapter welded on. Done.

Kieth , Josh left/retained one O'ring groove with the work he did so almost and WJ or after market "bolt on" such as our JBP WJ to Berk adaptor or for example a Place adaptor should seal adequately also when installing these a coating of Permatex "right stuff" will really help !  Tom

Mock up. There are some things to attend to. The extender seems to be a bit long. The hole on the PD bracket is a lit bigger than the forward, reverse cable. Just small things.

I have a jacuzzi 12WJ pump in a boat I just bought. Can anyone tell me which bowl this is? Looking through the nozzle I can see 8 vanes in there.....Trying to upload image but that's not working. It's a white bowl with 8 fasteners holding it in. It can be seen here: https://boats-from-usa.com/correct-craft/correct-craft-separator-173-39834

Just so you know, I removed the dolphin and feelings stickers before I let the boat in my shop....HA!

How about a droop snoot for this boat?? The guys at place said it would be too much lift for the boat but I don't know if that's so. The boat is wide and has a fairly deep v and it weighs 2200lbs. ....Seems like it could use all the lift it could get. It looks like a tiny boat in the pics but its not and it's built heavy.
