My 79 Tahiti (20.5ft) 454 bbc/Berk has a trim indicator (not functional) mounted on the dash. Anybody run one of these or have a good reason to (?) or do you just watch the rooster and how the boat handles? It looks like it ran a single wire down to the trim adjuster. Next time I get ambitious I will play with a voltmeter and see if there is a signal still, maybe p/o just disconnected it.
Since this is my first jet, I have ALOT to learn.

I have one but it looks like it hasn't worked in a long time. On a side note, my control buttons for my PD just fell apart in my lap last time out. Where can I buy the control module that mounts on the steering wheel? Tom @ JBP?

Do you replace it at the switch or at the other end of the cord? Hell I don't even know where the other end of that curley cord is. God I'm dumb (and not very curious at the moment)

I have a delco trim (raises and lowers snout) that is electrically operated with a three way switch (up/off/down). It uses a motor to drive a rack/gear to move cable and thus the snout. There is a wire off the motor that may be the feedback for position (?). Any body have any manufacturer info on these or how they are wired?
Who/where is gc@tom or whomever you mention might be able to help me out with parts (above posts) . Fwiw I have a straight snout (not a drop) and it likes level or down to get up on plane quickly, and at speed anything short of level or down makes the bow bounce too much for my fried backbone. Is that common?

Got 2 of 'em here, but no idea how they wire in. Could probably figure it out, but hit the sites for power window motor wiring schematics form the 70's (someone told me once it's a passenger side station wagon motor? :screwy: ) How they work is kinda cool, though!
It's not a "Place Diverter", though. Different animal. On the trim guage part, I would be lost to tell how it was supposed to work. My ship had two of the guages, but that's all been ripped out now. In looking at my electric Jet-o-vators though, there are 3 microswitches in each of the motor housings that I would assume would only show you full down, full up, and middle.......

FWIW, the micro switches are to limit the travel of the motor to prevent over torquing the motor...In other words, the switches that if maladjusted F's everything up :banghead:
I somewhat remember the trim signal being generated by a wiper type potentiometer, but it's been a while since I've seen a working one, my bud's Saberjet has one, maybe I will go do some reverse engineering.. >:D

Thanks, I think you are on to it. It currently has no overtravel switches and can really suck power if up against the stop (potentially frying the motor or pop the circuit). Micro switches would prevent that. I still want to know where the trim is set, and that is why I am asking if anyone has an old schematic or parts list or whatever. I saw the earlier post toa pot with wiper on it, but I am not sure how that would be hooked up in my situation. While it would be nice to go with a "better" newer jet and go hydraulic and have all the nice stuff, what I got is what I got ...unless I win the lottery :-)
Funny you should mention the micro switches, as I was thinking of using them to interrupt the drive signal in whichever overtravel position so I dont burn this old turkey up at least.
For now I just set the trim when I set the boat into the lake and leave it alone (slightly down).

I don't know that they're inferior to the Hydraulic PD unit, really. Just different. Pretty ingenious, if you ask me. I'd use them on the Twin Jet, but since getting to them for service, etc, once the boat is done, would involve a lot of spelunking in the engine compartment and probably require I be double jointed. Hence, it's going hydraulic PD units (Might as well, it's already set up for 2 other hydraulic pumps for the Bennett tabs and the hatch, what's 2 more? :screwy: )
I may put one of them on the Yellow Submarine, however, since have both nozzles and these layin around here anyway, just to see how well it works. :beer: My Unc had one on his Biesemeyer and loved it.

Did you note the fuel ending unit? hat right there is the trim indicator....
They use the potentiometer from the fuel sender for sending the signal to the gauge....
Pretty backwoods, but very effective, not to mention cheap (meaning inexpensive)... :thumbup:

Just kinda figured that out dragging one out for the pic Glenn. Sooooooo, that means you can just use a fuel level guage as a trim guage? relabel it, of course, Oh this poor lil Sag's in for it!

Beautiful! A fuel level sensor for trim gage. That I can do I suspect to my old unit. When I get a chance I will post some pics of my unit. To answer the question, no, not exactly like this, but your pictures made it clear to me what it may need. My drive is a linear track gear, not a screw gear as shown. But I get the idea!

I am now thinking I should switch to a manual trim adjuster (floor mount) after taking this turkey apart and reassembling. Here is what i got, it is having a hard time raising the nozzle (really sucks the current). I took it apart and cleaned the wholoe thing and it is only marginally better. In my mind the speed at which the nozzle moves is slow, and unknown position (yet) is troubling. Especially since I blow a fuse if overdriven.
Any body have a manual and cable for this set up? Thanks.

when i say sucks current, i mean SUCKS current. The voltage drops to 4 volts when lifting snout, about 6 volts dropping (easier).

Tom set me up with a new manual place diverter and cable and I pulled the whole electrical jobberdo out. SIMPLIFIED my boat to say the least. Plus, at a glance I can tell exactly where my diverter is. Went in easy and works great first time out. Easy to install and adjust. Biggest thought process was around screwing it to the floor for easy access underway yet not out in the way as a trip hazard when going aft.
