Title: Uneven Rooster Tail
Post by: Ckaz21 on March 10, 2015, 11:15:52 AM
So ever since I installed a place diverter a year ago I've notice my rooster tail have a funny shape to it. Stock JG pump with A impeller that was apparently rebuilt before I bought. The tail comes out in almost a triangular shape instead of a round shape. I've posted some pics. Its hard to tell by looking at the but you can kind of see that it looks funny.

I'm wondering if something might be stuck in the vanes? Is there any way to tell without taking the bowl off?

Thanks

Looks pretty normal to me. And you would know if somethin was stuck in your pump

Well when you look at it compared to my friends boat on the right you can see it looks a little off. It is way more noticeable at cruising speeds , the pics don't show it very well

Why are you worried about it?

You are not gaining any performance or losing any performance with the Diverter that high. I wouldn't even worry about it.

Only reason I'm wondering is because my roostertail looks way different then all my friends boats, and I've heard that if its not in a perfect round shape then something is wrong. If you were to be in the boat and looking at the tail its looks very uneven. Like I said the pics don't do it justice.

It means zero imho. If you are that concerned, get a nozzle and insert kit, drop it down 1/4" in diameter.

You will likely not see a difference in performance.

X2 a smaller nozzle may fix the problem if it's a big concern to you. You'll have to get the diverter nozzle machined for the insert though.

Do you have a new Diverter, or a used one? Do you have a picture of it?

Are the diverter seals shot or even there? If they are worn you'll get some blow out and if it's gone well...how do I say it....it's really bad

Its a new diverter. Bought it brand new last July. Hell I if you don't think it effects performance at all then I wont mess with it.

Does the reverse bucket go up all the way and completely clear the opening

Why is everybody missung the big question heres does your friend have more horsepower than you because if he does that's why your tail look smaller it's simple genetics it's okay if yours is  smaller than his. Buy more ponies

Could it be that maybe his boat just rides a little deeper? Maybe his roost is getting distorted coming out of the water? Just a thought?

Then I start to wonder what variables come into play with all of this, because mine looks like a fire hose shooting out the back.  Not as full and thick(very non technical term) as the rooster pictures above.  hhhhmmmmm
