Title: water inlet valve

I have owned boats for 30 years now and just purchased a used very nice sleekcraft jet boat. This is the first jet boat that I have ran across a water inlet valve. It's a indmar 454 with a berkley, I do not like to run a inlet water valve but would like to hear from others as far as the pros and cons. Do any of you guys run a inlet valve?

First and formost, where are the pictures and welcome aboard the nuttiness  :sly:

If the valve of which you speak is on the water outlet of the pump, leave it there, it serves two things, one, a quick shut off in case of catastrophic hose failure while in the water and two, a Mickey Mouse way of slowing the water flow if your engine overcools and have no way to regulate it..If the valve is in the hose at a tee and there is a hose bib adapter, that is a way run the engine on a garden hose and I do not recommend that particular method, like I said no pic=piss poor help   ;)

All well said Glen and to "elaborate" I'd rather see you run the motor cold than to limit the inbound water by virtue of the inlet valve , limiting the water flow versus regulating it can cause among other things "cold shock" to the backs of the combustion chambers for example on a hard run then abrupt slowdown I wish you could see the huge box of Hardware store stuff we take off boats Tom
