I am having a major problem with water spraying back inside my boat (which makes it a constant battle keeping Bassett pipes looking good) and I'm confused why this is happening? Any thoughts?

The early Place Diverter for Jacuzzi didn't have a sealing ring causing them to spray pretty bad. I don't think any of the Berkeley versions came without a seal. Check to see if the nylon sealing ring is in place and not damaged.

What sealing ring are you talking about? My jacuzzi jet does the same thing

Its the seal that is on the pump side of the nozzle. I had that problem. Water looked like a fan when driving. Take thw nozzle off and you will see it.

I've been trying to find an old thread that had some good pictures of what I'm talking about, but could not find it.
The original Jacuzzi adapter from the bowl to the nozzle didn't have a nylon/teflon sealing ring and the early Place Diverter didn't either. It allowed a small spray of water to leak around the area where the nozzle pivots from side to side.

I had a major problem with this last weekend but my Panther ride plate was wrapped under my pump... Lol

Stay ahead of the spray and pull the bilge pump as you slow down

I get alittle spray just when idling. But with automatic bilge pumps, no pulling needed, I think I know exactly what nylon bushing your talking about mine is worn down pretty good

I get spray from my cooling water splashing off my diverter cable, could that be a cause?

Put a gopro facing backwards and will help you figure it out

The camera idea is good. Those turn buckles look like they can be a cause too, but you will never know without a visual.

I posted a thread about this sort of problem I had a little over a year ago on here. When I just installed a Place Diverter with all the normal hardware and upon slowing down, I too used to get a large amount of water that would spray over the engine and headers more on the right side, it drove me nuts! Here is what completely solved my problem, I went to Place Diverter and Controls and spoke to Tim Place about this issue, I found that it was the forward / reverse bucket cable and arm that the water was ramping up and launching off of into the engine. He showed me a low profile forward / reverse cable arm and the bucket that has to be used with this style of arm, so I bought them, installed it and the problem was gone instantly. It’s just weird how only some smaller jet boat hull designs have this issue with how the water flows behind the hull and catches that arm and cable. Hope this helps you out, here is a picture of my set up and good luck, maybe see you at the river some day.

I have my JE Place Diverter from my open bow on my day cruser JC like that and it works great! just drill a few holes for the cable mount and BAM low profile :)

Hey Joe, how ya been?...I slid -8 pushloc hose over the cables to prevent the sun rot and cracking the plastic on the cables, it has worked out well and have had a lot of complements.

I have the old style diverter for a Berk JC.
I was wondering if a groove could be machined into the outer circumfrence on the ball end (pump side of the diveter)
and have that nylon seal inserted for a better seal.

looks clean i gotta say....
but i bet its a fun job if you need to remove it.

Sure, anytime, hope it all works out for you with the reverse spray issue. Most likely this is what’s happening with the standard style arm and cable location, the teflon O ring that some speak of is not the issue, sometimes also when the forward / reverse bucket isn’t all the way in the up position and hangs a bit into the jet wash, that can also cause a minor spray to come back, but again I think the low profile arm / bucket and how the cable attaches will be your fix, it sure was mine… :thumbup:

How hard was it to slide it over the ends of the cables?

The whole process really was no big deal, I just used some dish wash soap to help slide them through.
