Title: Wedges
Post by: GAWnCA on June 11, 2008, 08:25:17 AM
Ok, if you are adding a 4* wedge to a JG Berkeley pump, does it angle the nozzle up or down?

Depends on how you install the wedge

I've got lots of down angle so I guess it goes with the wide part down so as to give more up nozzle.  I can always adjust more down on the Place Diverter.

The correct way to run it is the way it makes the boat run the way you like it. Try it with no wedge, up wedge and down wedge and see which one you like the best. There is no "normal" way to install it...just as long as you don't install it sideways lol.

If you did install it sideways, wouldn't that be a cool way to dial in a left turn for racing?  NASCAR dials their cars in for a left turn.   ;D ;D

If I spent millions of dollars on a car that don't turn right that better be one fast, high tech SOB. ;D

If you gan get away with running no wedges at all, you'll be better off, just due to the hassles if installation.

Why do you think it's a hassle?  My new pump is sitting on a pallet and the wedge is sitting here in a box.  Remove bolts, add wedge, reinstall the nozzle.

The "hassle" is that the bolt lengths never seem to work out, my pump is "double drilled" so it takes some finess to get things right, seems like a lot of trouble if you may not need it, the Diverters do quite well in that regard.

That's why some people run bowl studs when they run a wedge. They bend.

You can make your own studs out of stainless all thread.

Mine has studs, and works pretty well, it just seems everytime you change wedge configurations, you need to play around with the combo, the Place Diverter eliminated the need for the wedge, at least on the little boat (18'6") The small block needed more help though (bow heavy as hell).
