What the f is the purpose of a hand hole extension? I have one on a pump I picked up and pretty sure I have no use for it. Enlighten me please.

In case of a high waterline to the pump......If you pull the cover on most of our boats with the boat in the water, down she goes...A hand hole extension allows it to be removed in the water without sinking your chit....

Oh. Maybe I should use it then. Does it have any effect on performance of the pump? The standard cover has a contoured piece now 5 inches away

They have been known to have some ill effects on really light fast hulls, but I really don't think the "Assonometer" would be able to tell the difference over a standard cap on a cruiser or a heavier family boat, the standard caps fit like poo poo anyway. Just make sure it seals good or it could suck air.
