With all the talk lately about droops and snoots I thought about the one on my boat, we looked at it this weekend and decided that it was installed right, but then I looked again and it looks like it's upside down? Is it my eyes or is this thing not on right? BTW- at best I got a 3-4 foot roost with my diverter in full up, this is why I'm wondering.

it looks right to me....if you look at the angel of the line between the droop and bowl vs the nozzle pin angel, its less. (4 degrees)
your pic doesnt look right at first glance, but its an optical illusion.
get your protractor out and get geeky with it.

after looking at it again.....i am SURE its right.....look at the way the droop is cut on the nozzle side....it has more angel on it then the pin angel........so its just an optical illusion.

When I put that droop on to get it off the floor of my garage I took it off twice to make sure it was right to. It looks weird for sure.

Your getting a 3-4 foot roost cause its upside down, its pointing the nozzle down instead of giving you the 4-8 degree up angle that droops give........

I know yours is a mini but its the same except the up angle. mine has a 8 degree up angle. look at the pins

How can you tell it's upside down?

Judging from the bowl side of the droop, it is on correctly. On the nozzle side, it does appear that the pin angle is negative(down) as opposed to positive(up). What I'm wondering is whether that is somebody's one-off creation or a factory piece. Where did the droop come from? That is a very short droop.

I'm not sure what brand it is, it was on the boat when I got it.

To give you the up angle you need , the bottom pin should be farther out then the top pin to get the up angle you need.
Flip it and throw a bigger roost

the RED line should be ignored, its whats throwing you guys off. look at the pin angel vs the bowl angel.

If he "flips it", it will no longer be a droop. :)
I wonder if it was a "cut and weld" job done specifically for a particular racer's needs. After all, best performance is generally found to be with a tail height in the 3-4 foot range. The closest I could find from a pump manufacturer was the aggressor short droop. That one has a 3.5" positive pin angle, and looks very close to what you have.
If what you want is a big roost, then get another droop that has a high positive pin angle.

look at it again. If the two lines were extended, they would intersect ABOVE the droop. That means that the droop has a positive(upward) pin angle.

A bigger roost isn't necessarily what I'm after, I was just curious, Ralph's boat, with no droop, made a nice roost, I was wondering if the snoot being on wrong would hinder mine, I'm even more confused

Have you verified that your diverter is actually moving all the way up? Depending on how your control is adjusted, you may be stopping it short of full "up". Disconnect the cable at the diverter. Move control to the full up position. Now pivot the diverter full up. Adjust the cable to fit without moving the diverter.

The FACT that the "droop" angles down (thus the "droop" part of it) tells you it's on right . The point of a droop is to put the thrust line lower in the water effectivley giving you lift at the back of the boat . Diffrent companies put diffrent pin angles on them to further aid in boat handling issues .
HTP offers their straght snoots in 2 diffrent pin angles .

The diverter is getting full up travel when the handle is full up, the snoot is on correctly, it's 4.5" to the top pin from the face of the bowl and 5" to the bottom pin. It's a 3.5* pin angle, good thing I still have my wedge ;D

Got a couple of "cents' to get rid of, this looks like a (0") degree snoot, the reason for it was to allow the teering nozzle to go downward in turns (very similar to "caster" on a car), these are used a whole bunch on rivers (with white stuff) allows full on high speed turns without taking out trim, the "perfect" performance roost is about 4-6' off the water for most boats, but much more fun at about 10-12'. I would wedge up if the boat will take it. OK four cents...

That actually makes sense, thank you for your help. I am going to hit the lake in the morning and see what my carb tuning did for me, then I'll worry about the wedge

I bought that off a race boat. I don't think it was intended for a big roost or crazy up angle

Are you judging the size of your roost from inside the boat or from the shore line with someone else driving? The roost ALWAYS looks smaller from inside the boat!

Ok kids, curiousity got the better of me and I pulled the sumbitch off the boat, measured it with the protractor and it's a 2.5* up snoot. I'll be hitting the lake manyana to test my carb tuning, gonna check it the diverter out good then. Next week when I have the gaskets and studs, I'll be adding the 4* wedge I have, that should give me some up angle, no??
