Title: WJ Upgrades
Post by: coors909 on October 05, 2015, 12:23:05 PM
Hi I have a wj pump and wanted to know if I'm want to build it to its best potential. Would it be a good idea to buy the jacuzzi energizer kit?  I want to make sure I have all my engine power.

I'd get a new wear ring.
shim the front bearing for proper impeller to wear ring clearance.
Detail the impeller. (MPD?)
Knife-edge the intake grate, top and bottom.
Take off every other intake grate 'bar'
Detail the leading and trailing edges of the bowl.
Smooth out the intake and suction housing down to 220 grit.
Diverter.

So the jacuzzi energizer kit is a bad idea even though you can put a wedge and everything for a Berk on it?  If I put a diverter on it and have the pump blue printed would that be a good idea?

I've never had an energizer kit, they are quite spendy.
with a WJ and a diverter, performance was nearly the same as a berk with diverter.
I guess it depends on your goals, too
I'd buy a used berk and swap out the WJ, before getting an energizer kit, but thats me.
I'll keep my WJ all WJ
71.8mph ~475 hp, WJ

Cool thank you. I really just want it to do around 75. My pump guy said he would blue print it and build it for 1000. I'm going to rebuild my bbc this winter.

There are people that make adapter rings that will bolt to the WJ bowl and allow Berkeley components to be installed (droop, wedge, diverter...).

Place diverter has all that stuff right?

I don't know if Place offers the adapter ring I've seen, but they should have everything else.

From what he said. Was rebuild and blue print. Not sure what all that is. Was going to ask him before I was ready. What should be done for that price?

WJ and YJ are as different as night and day

WJ > mixed flow (like a Berkeley)

YJ > axial flow (like a jet ski)

The only thing that fits is the driveline, and only maybe...
