Title: 60 mph SBC gas sipper?
Post by: Rogers Hopeful on May 21, 2012, 11:19:43 AM
well i was out at big river this weekend went from the park to the cove by the headgate damn and back to the park twice (10-15 miles round trip each trip i would guess), then i also went on a ski ride behind it as well.  I had a couple of wide open passes with the bimini up (60 mph).  from what the guy told me it has a AA imp. and have no idea what RPM i was turning bc i have yet to get a tach that works with the magneto. (might be switching to HEI so my tach will work).  but anyways after all of this running around cruising the river at about 35-40mph i only had to put in 3.5 gallons!!!!   ;D  needless to say i am stoked that this summer wont be to expensive to fill up the boat!!

My Saguaro/SBC holds 11 gals per side-went from sportsmans park (Riverside Casino ramp) to needles bridge and back on one tank, ~65 mi, round trip, mostly cruising, a few short wfo romps.
(need to reset intake, found a submerged boulder near BHC comm. park last Nov. :banghead: )

This may just be me, but that doesn't seem right... Judging by the picture you have saddle tanks. Did you fill both sides? (I don't believe they will flow into both sides that fast) I mean be wrong, but the math just doesn't add up in my head.

Has saddle tanks. I have a switch to switch tanks. About mid day I switched tanks. Gallon and a half tank one and another gallon and a half tank 2. Went until it clicked then topped off a hair. Right at the bottom of the filler on both!!  :)

single carb it's plausible, I don't do much worse with my sbc v drive, but with dual 660's
