Got an offer for a promotional transfer to Ironwood State Prison, just outside Blythe, anybody familiar with that area? What's the town like? Housing? The River? Any help is greatly appreciated

my uncle works out there as a nurse at the high securrity section of the prision and lives in joshua tree....he owns a few apartment buildings out there. he loves it out there and seems like hes happy working out there, but has some serious gripes about the governator's budget cuts.

Not much in beautiful Blythe as far as restaurants unless you only want to eat mexican food if you are used to eating out.

mama does the phone book out that way... according to her, if you call around 4pm most business owners will tell you they are on their first beer and to call back in the mornin...

i couldn't imagine living in blythe full time...or even quartzsite or any of those small towns. maybe if i was 90yrs old and had nothing to do all day. if you like the river and going to the dunes, i guess it would be a good fit but even that gets old after awhile. oh, and the river there SUCKS ;D

That's the kind of info I was looking for! I did some internet searching on Blythe, I'm thinking they're gonna have to find someone else to transfer there

Some people (including me) think the river rocks around Blythe. Low key, no drama, no choppy water, no crowded ramps, only an hour or so from "the Zoo" if you need that stuff in your life. What's not to like about that. Granted no nightlife or nice restaurants but the water is great year round. F Havasu

Thats why I go there and have been going there since 1996. Plus, no big boats to swamp us little guys.

And the very best thing is if your boat breaks you can just float back to camp. Try that at Havafew. I am 46 yrs old and have been going to the Water Wheel area since before I could walk. My grandfather used to dump his old Cadillacs and ranch trucks where the cesspools are now. Anybody remember that old store out on the highway?

My best friends parents have had a place right by water wheel since I was in first grade. I love that place. First river experience was there. Never forget it. I'm not sure I'm old enough to remember the old store though...

I got hooked on Blythe after a buddy invited me to McIntyre Park where he had a trailer. Been going ever since. Went to Havasu once and didnt like it. Felt like was driving a Yugo on the 405 freeway.

I thought I read recentlyy that the space rent at WW was like 5 or 6 hundred dollars a month :o Does anyone know? Man how times have changed.

Exactly. Space rent is $265 at McIntyre for a normal spot and $295 if you want a sewer line.

I grew up in Blythe, not much to do. The cool thing is you can get off work and be at the river in 10 minutes. And you can leave out of your back yard and ride your motorcycle out in the Desert. The resraurants there don't compare to "Big City Restaurants". I live in Palm Springs now and would never move back. I love the river down there for the same reasons as RichyRich. On a three day weekend its still not crowed, and alot more laid back.

A lot of the correctional officers car pool (its a van) from Palm Desert to Blythe. That must suck 1 1/2 ride to work every day but it would suck more to live in Blythe full time.

Shhhhhhhhhh; keep it quiet; good place to take my family; not so wild; don't want too many people to know; shhhhhhhhh.
Seriously; I like Blythe; quick/easy to get to; not crazy and can ski more; longer stretch of river; known for shallow areas so the 'lake' boats who's only purpose is to kick out a wake, stay away. Jet haven (IMO) and good if you want to keep it mellow (yeah, I've gotten old).

only downside is I haven't found a nice place to beach yet. Dont say McIntyre park either, that place is a pit. Tons of red ants-not kid friendly at all.

If you want to hang with some locals, you can beach it on the sand bar at Gilligan's Island; have to get there early 'cause it fills up; my guess is there are better places but haven't had my boat running long enough since I got to get to Blythe; that will come in time.
I think Acquaholic has a place at McIntyre.

I've heard ton's about Blythe and how good it is...but i also heard that it is VERY shallow??? I have a 18 1/2 ft Challenger..semi vee...very low....454 BBC with a WJ squirt...how would that do out there? ???

18 ft is the boat of choice out there. You'll be fine if you just watch the water carefully, go where everyone else goes, and never go where you see duck walking on the water (inside joke sorry). Water goes up and down A LOT during the day, keep it in mind when beaching. Have fun!

Read this thread right b4 I went to be last night, had a dream about being at the river with a bunch of friends, hit up the ol lady this AM, and soooo 2 and a half hrs after I get off work I'll be getting wet in Blythe ! Anybody else gonna be there tomorrow?

Mayflower park is nice, well shaded and clean bathrooms with showers. There were only about 5 or 6 people tent camping like us, but several big RV's with no boats. Two wide ramp in good shape but needed more water at 4pm to easily load a 23 ft boat. No beach tho. Very quiet now but it gets insane with jetski traffic closer to summer. You can't go upriver very far before you run into the dam and I always like to stay upriver from where my truck is LOL.
The weather was perfect 80's and tiny bit of breeze, with night down in the low 50's. I hope to go back very soon.

Blythe and lost lake rock thats where u go when you think your sh t is fast and get shut down plus the water is nice kid freindly place try going to river breezes on th AZ side best place on weekends they have a big party fri and sat night and everyone is freindly the kind of place the kids can run around and not worry about them,been going their for years now O0

Does anybody remember going to Palo Verde area south of Blythe. Went there a few times with a friend of a friend who had a blown alcohol picklefork that never ran very well. Waste of a good Hemi year after year. Wondered if it had changed much cuz it seemed real backwater then.

I have been going to Blythe since 92. I live in Palm Desert area and i can tow a boat from driveway to ramp in 1 1/2 hours. Takes about an hour to drive to ironwood (dont ask). Not too sure i would live in Blythe unless i had a killer pad on the river, short of thatI would commute from the Palm Springs area. I have a feew friends that do and it isnt too bad.
As for the river at blythe, I agree with the other posts..... SHHHHHH. It is a bit shallow, but how much water do you REALLY need? i stay at Mayflower and day camp up river by the dam. Much better than Hav2sue and other parts of the CR that i have been on.
I would say make a trip and check it out.

We were there for Memorial Day unfortunately mother nature didnt agree with us and we were able to get on the water.
