Title: Newbie heading to Blythe memorial weekend
Post by: RiverRat474 on May 14, 2014, 04:00:02 AM
First time in Blythe launching at Mclntyre sat and sun where's the best spot to hang out any hazards I need to look out for would like to meet scjb members and help us celebrate my big 40 birthday i only get one keep an eye out for a sparkling silver and blue Kachina

There's a ton of us that head out at the Mc, also lots of really cool locals. Head north passed the power lines and you'll see a beach on the right side, that's So Cal island, there's usually a bunch of us there, or up a little further on the right is drop off and just passed that on the left is goose flats, those are the three main places to hang out.

In terms of hazards, there isn't much until you head north of Blythe, I'm sure someone will give you the tour though. Welcome aboard

yep he pretty much covered it. if you go south there is a lagoon they call hippie hole. but most of the MC crew will be on socal beach, or mob beach, depending on what group you are talking to. OR in goose flats. Keep looking off to your left once you past the power lines. you will see a small opening with a no wake buoy. that is the entrance to goose flats

What no wake buoy tony? that chit is long gone, be careful going in there. The toolies have grown in really thick and theres only enough room for one boat at a time to go in and out.

what the bouy is gone!!! that thing has been there for ever. LOL. i guess im not too up to date on the Blythe happenings since i sold my mcintyre trailer to mark.

I am a willow rat now. up in willow valley. I love it up there. just miss my McIntyre family and the McIntyre Mob. and Blythe has better beaches that are not all owned by the indians.

anyway enjoy the weekend. i will see you guys if you ever come up between havasu and laughlin. i am all over that stretch of the river now

Hippy hole is really far down river from goose flats. It's almost 15 miles or more. I wish my boat would make it down there.

Hippie hole is good times beach is aewsome compared to other spots it really goes off on big weekends and sometimes there is a live band on a pontoon boat. Only reason I like to head up to goose flats is because that's where the real fast boats hang out and they are fun to look at

Friday is always the low day due to the dam holding water back for the farmers.
I always check here for water flow before i go out

http://www.usbr.gov/lc/region/g4000/hourly/rivops.html (http://www.usbr.gov/lc/region/g4000/hourly/rivops.html)

Normally the flow that comes out of parker matches the flow out of the dam above us. 10,500 is a good water day. anything more is high is hell.

Trust me, they're there.  They ride sea-do's.  They blend right in until they pull up on you.  Look out for single dudes on sea-do's wearing black ski vest, black shorts, baseball hat's and sunglasses.  Their badge is embroidered on their vest.  I've watched them cruise right up on un-suspecting  people several times.
And as far as the road goes, be careful in town and on 95.  I've been pulled over 2 times for BS reasons.  Once was for not signaling at the 4 way stop sign at Intake(Hwy 95) and Main st, even though I was the only one at the intersection.  The cop that pulled me over was in an unmarked white Tahoe parked in the Steaks & Cakes parking lot.  The other was for supposedly not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.  I'm 53 and drive like an old man, please!  When they saw I wasn't drinking or a "person of interest", they just tell me to be more careful and let me go.  The locals call this "fishing" . They pull random people over that look like they are going to or coming from the river to see what they can find  ie: drinking and driving, drugs, what ever just  to get a look at what you got in your car. Just be aware because they are watching you!

Don't get me wrong, they're not like black-ops, covert, and hiding in every bush. But just be aware, like anywhere else, they're around.   Blythe is my favorite stretch of river, been going  there since 1979.  Like I've tried to teach my kids, if you've got nothing to hide you got nothing to worry about.  If you've got something to hide, then do a damn good job of hiding it .  Don't get caught just being stupid.  O0
Have fun and enjoy the weekend.

No, I'm passing on the crowds.  I may make it down next weekend and for sure fathers day.  I used to keep my trailer at Rivera many years ago.
I would probably go down river and meet up with all the  people out of McIntyre at Goose flats or where ever they're hanging out.  It can get really busy around Rivera and a couple miles on either side of the bridge.  Up river is cool but about 4 miles up there's a fairly sketchy section when the water is low, probably try that another time after you've made a couple trips to the area.  Down river you should be good all the way the McIntyre.

I left Corona at 2:30.  The 91 sucked balls immediately so I went north on the 15 to the 60.  The 15 was parked going north past the 60 so I went thataway.  It turned into a parking lot in Rubidoux, right where I wanted to get off and take the lightly traveled side streets back to the 10, a short cut I have often used.  Oh Lordy, they had one major side street closed for construction and another from the same intersection blocked because of an accident on the railroad tracks so there are orange cones and cop cars everywhere.  It took 20 minutes to get back out and around this cluster.  But back on the 10 out to Berdoo and beyond was 70+ as usual.  Home by 4 though.

LOVE that shit, when all hell breaks loose for a bit.  Reminds you you're alive

Makes for great river stories later on.   Just like when a skunk or snake show up in you tent.   Fun times for sure.   Man I wish I was down there this weekend.   Y'all even got killer meteor showers right now.   Damn I gotta get outta the house more.

I dont normally go into goose on the big weekends anymore. the water gets gross and doesn't really move.
On that note, i didn't take my orange boat out last weekend. sorry if i did see any of you guys. i was on the Island most of the weekend, the GF likes the flowing water better  :screwy:

Fun weekend, ill be back out in 2 weeks!

Good meeting you and the family too Mark, I'm blessed I have such awesome neighbors, row 1 is the best row (Jake's row sucks and has slow boats on it).

By the way, how did the new pump work out for you?
