Post by: Willow Wog on July 24, 2009, 10:55:01 AM
Anyone go as far south as walters camp? Im leaving today With a couple of the guys I was out there 2 weeks ago and it was awesome we didnt see another boat on saturday until about noon. Im not taking my boat due to the fact that its in topock but we will have one jet and a whacker time to drink on someone elses boat for once and get some epic skiing in.  4 weekends in a row at the river its been a crazy season...

I guess the easiest way to explain it is just below palo verde  but above martinez and such. its about 30 to 40 miles outside of glamis.. its in the middle of nowhere lol

It's about 20 miles from martinez! If you guys come that far down river we will be at the big sand bar just up river from martinez.

Post up some pictures of the place when you get back.  I am heading down to Walters Camp in a couple weeks.

I didnt get any pics this weekend but the place is real mellow. It is a nice change of pace compared to what we are used to. I'll be back out there the weekend of aug 20th.  be careful after yo launch its guaranteed that you will suck up weeds. we had to get out and clean the intake every time we went in or out of the channel.  where abouts in chino hills are you im in los serranos.

I am launching from McIntyre Park and heading down south to at least Walters Camp.  How far into the channel is the gas dock?  Also, how is the bar that they have down there?  I am not far from you, I am off of Picasso and Butterfield Ranch.

Ok nice the gas dock is all the way in past the houses you wont really see the pump from the water (its up top with a really long hose) but its right next to the walters camp launch ramp.  right on I know where your at. your not far from me at all I'm up by los seranos school off of pipeline and val verde

So where do you guys stay at when you are at Walters Camp?  Do they have rentals down there?  Is the channel well maked from the river with a sign?  Like I said we're just going to get gas and maybe some lunch.  I heard they have a bar/restaurant there is it any good?  Thanks for the info. Jerry

Walters camp is a rv resort with permanant spots my buddy has a spot in there. There is no restaurant. And there is a sign on the outside of the channel. you cant miss it there is a few houses on the water right at the begining and down the channel. beware of the manitee's  :o you will get that when you pull in.

I don't know of any maps of Walters Camp but you could figure it out by using google map.  About thirty minutes south is the Picacho
State Recreation Area.  Here is a link to there Map/Brochure of the area.  http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/641/files/PicachobrochureFINAL.pdf (http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/641/files/PicachobrochureFINAL.pdf)

I found it on google earth too but it wasn't called that, it was called paymaster landing.  I asked the old timers at the camp and they said it was paymaster landing years and years ago before "walter" bought it.
