That sure is a nice car. I want another one so bad but the prices have become outrageous. Since you are a vw guy. Do you know anyone with some 48's laying around?

were you looking for a complete set of IDAs....carbs, manifolds, linkage....etc. or just carbs. also, isnt there an italian version and a .... newer version? ( thought i was told italians work better).

I would like to find a set with manifolds. The Italian sets are the same as the new set made from the same mold. Empi came out with a 48mm carb that resembles a old Italian 48 but those are not the same. They don't make the same power. The Italian sets are good if they are brand new, otherwise some work may have to be done to them to freshen them up. Depends on the use and how much. Normally cross shafts and bearings have to be replaced. I know I can get a new set for $1100 with better floats, manifolds,linkage and different needle and seats with a third progression hole in them for smoother transitions. But I was just seeing if anyone had a set that would work for my car before I buy new

Well said. I haven't heard much good on the third progression hole. Some say Carb is ruined at that point being originally a race Carb. Maybe they're picky. I still have a couple of trees to shake. See if a set falls down. 800$ is what I've been hearing for good used set. I'll keep you posted homes.

Right on. The progression hole has been happening since the 70's. It makes the carb streetable and lets the carb transition between low and high speed.

I'm familiar with what it does. That's just the verdicts of some old school be racer guys. You know the ones.....most of them have super pretty cars with 22-2300 something, usually together as a club at the classic.
I've never had IDAs.... so I can't speak for myself. Good luck with search.

I have had a few sets with and without the third progession holes.
I know the guys you speak of, and those guys all have fast cars, but they dont drive them around really. I drove 48's around so the hole helps. I like a 2275 size. Case is still strong at that point.

exactly! real fast (11s or quicker), real pretty....driven once a month...maybe....to the meets haha. my neighbor belongs to DKP. Hes on the fence about third hole....has heard good and bad. another guy, you may have seen on youtube in a early black bug doing donuts...show casing the quaife limited slip(mark herbert), he had 2275 in that car with IDAs... old school street racer, preferred the two hole (dont we all >:D) for racing....but was ok with third hole for streetability(if done right). this guy also had the car known as the super shit box. basically a tin can with a beast under the decklid. pretty quick, spare all expenses on looks. car sold to someone in england.

The motor is in my sand car. I knkw some guys from DKP. I grew up down the street from the old dairy queen (nicks) that they meet at or met at. I love those cars. That a dream car of mine. I think you have to only be in the 12's not to bad in a bug. My dad had a lot of street cars back in the day and an old race car that is now in Belgium. Animal Crackers.
