It doesn't bother anyone that this is basically a rip off of the slide anchor?
Title: Re: Sand spikee
Post by: H20Nut21Bahner on December 06, 2014, 08:31:58 AM
Take it as you will. They're not exactly the same. If some people want to save a few bucks on an accessory and use the saved money on something else, that's their choice.
If you don't care for it, why waste the time posting or complaining?

Nope because I rather shove money into the pockets of a fellow member then a shop which btw charges probably twice as much.

OK. Since you brought it up.

How to you think the Slide Anchor came to be?

Correct,  it was an idea taken from someone else. I had a version of the slide anchor that my grandfather made 45 years ago.  Did he steal that idea from a company that had only been around for about 15 years? Don't think so.

This is a very common design and I doubt seriously that Slide Anchor gives two poos about some make a half a dozen shore spikes.

Ok I though it was an original idea. I'm all about people who come up with good one off ideas. I just didn't think it was fair to tweak someone's design and call it something different. But I guess that's the way things are now a days.

At the price he is selling them at and the few he has produced I would say it's just a weekend fun project. He isn't trying to stiff anyone.  I've made two myself and they are almost copies of slide anchor. And it's not like there is a lot of technology into these spikes so we can't really change up much.

Thanks for all the backing guys. Even though it didn't bother me one bit. I actually found it kind of funny that I'm "ripping someone off" for a lesser price. I don't make hardly anything at all from it considering cost of material, electricity, gas and wire in my welder.

As for Glenn, exactly my thought. I know I'm not the only one nor the last to make one similar.

Dennis, you're exactly right, that's all it is. Something to mess with when I get bored

ha ha if we all had no imagination to build things and just buy them none of us could afford to own a boat. Well at least I know I couldn't. Keep up the good work bud.

Now a days? I'm confused. So for instance, bicycle manufacturers are all ripping the original off? Same with carburetors, pumps, trailers, electronics, ice chests, tires, detailing supplies, beers, sunglasses, shoes..... these are just a few things I can see where I am sitting right now.

How many of us make apple pie these days. I know I really enjoy my weekend project. I know everyone I've had tasting (cherry, Apple, peach, cranberry, and etc.) with enjoy it, and have "donated" to the cause.

Well, I am sure you guys have seen some errors on here lately and last night I tried to fix them but ended up breaking a lot of stuff....and the errors are still there.

There are going to be a few features unavailable for some time. I will try to get them back up and running as soon as possible.

The following features are broken:

  • Member Map
  • Posting Various Media Formats within posts - (ex: wmv's, google video, youtube, etc. - pictures still work)
  • MySpace Profile Link
  • Donate Link

There are other admin functionality components that are broken as well, but my main concern was getting the forum back up and running smoothly and worry about the rest later.

The Gallery is still online, just not bridged into the forum. You can access it here: http://www.socaljetboats.com/cpg/
If it asks for a username and password, it is the same one you use for this forum. Please do not create new accounts on the gallery, as it will make a mess when I go to bridge it again with the forum.

The errors you will find are like this:

Also, if there is something more or less you want to see on these forums, let me know. I can add just about any functionality out there.

-Goad

1-15-2007 Edit: The Gallery has been fixed
Should have more complete by next weekend. Used the last of my tubing today

What do you coat/paint them with?

I'm assuming they'll eventually get scratched and start to rust. Would they just have to be sanded and re painted?

Not questioning your workmanship, just curious about taking care of it.

I'm assuming they'll eventually get scratched and start to rust. Would they just have to be sanded and re painted?

Not questioning your workmanship, just curious about taking care of it.
I've been using Rustoleum with pretty good luck. It's a bit easier and cheaper. Thought about powdercoat, but that would drive the price up too far, IMO

I'd like at least 2 if possible. 1 for sure if there is a limit.

I've got you down for 2 or 3. Trying to hang on to some for the Avi for people there(you were one of them).

No limit. First come, first serve
