idle RMP for an 88 blackmax 200?
« on: April 10, 2017, 08:54:14 AM »
Hi guys in new to the hole boat life. That being said I got a project boat at the end of last summer and replaced all the stringers and floor and some other miscellaneous stuff like the tachometer and gages.  The new one has some settings on it and in trying to get it programed right. Does anyone know the idle RMP for an 88 blackmax 200?

thanks

I believe 5-800 is where you want to be but I've always been told to adjust the idle by changing the timing

Less than 750rpm. It won't shift right anything higher.

That tach should be set up for "poles". More motor info needed to be sure how it gets set up.

And Bunger is spot on. The timing determines idle speed. But thinking you needed to know to verify the tach?

What tach?

That motor should have a 12 pole alternator, you would set the tach for "6" poles, if there is an "Alt" switch, that should be "on".

Outboard tachometers don't work like automotive. You may need to purchase an adapter.

Hope this helps.

My kid took it out and said it pulled real hard topped out at 60. Have a 23 pitch stainless he tried but said it did 52 and slipped alot. Think its for a outdrive so have to try a different one for any more top end. Have you ran yours yet?

Yes I  ran the three blade 21 and it pulled OK and I got it up to 52. I am looking for something that will pull harder and get me up around 60 .  Preferably something in aluminum because I plan on running it at the river . I have a 5 blade 19 that I was going to try next
