Land & Sea exhaust question
« on: February 28, 2017, 02:45:55 PM »
I recently bought this boat and it has a Land & Sea middle unit. On the outside it has an open hole that the exhaust comes out of. It looks to be missing a cap of some sort. It's also super load! Can anyone tell me what this part is called and where's a good place to get it? Also is it possible to just seal this?

What motor is that. I have some Land and Sea parts and have a friend still in the business.

That pop off is a pretty common part.

If you're looking for an honest and to the point answer, not worth a shit.

The idea was to open the pop off at speeds above approximately 50mph. It was hooked to a pitot tube like the speedometer uses and would open the exhaust up for "more power".

The design flaw was that a two stroke needs the exact opposite, open at lower speeds when the lower leg was full of water and shut down when the lower leg is empty. The through hub exhaust actually does a great job of scavenging the exhaust..

I'll be at the garage on Thursday, I'll see what stuff I have left.

There are many better ways to improve performance.

If it was me personally, I would block it off or find a good used mid.

They do tend to run a tad lean at wot.

What do you think a used mid section would cost?

I've given some away. I've seen blown up motors for sale for a few hundred dollars.

There's dude I deal with in Rancho Cordova that deals in salvaged marine parts. I'll hit him up and see what he thinks. I'll get you his contact info also.

Extremely slow to respond, the best way is the eBay store.

The old man at Shipwreck was grumpy, but honest and good to deal with.

Customer service is lost anymore.

No doubt about customer service. When I run into good service I cherish it more. Lol

There is a boat place down sunrise that has a yard with no joke 40+ boats just sitting. Don't know why but I always wanted to walk through it. Almost looked like a boat graveyard or pick and pull.

It's probably an insurance yard. There used to be a Copart on Sunrise.

I did a ton of training classes in Rancho. Chrysler, OMC, Mercury Marine..... All in that area by the airport.

So if I was to buy the pop off are you saying it will open up at lower speeds and close at high speeds? Or will it actually open at higher speeds but really doesn't do much? Thanks for your help!

The original idea was to open at higher hull speed, which was sort of silly.
