sweet! one major thing i wish i would've known before glassing is how much resin I would really need. the owner of the fiberglass(boat building) store that i went to said that i would be fine with 2 gallons and 5 yards of mat and cloth..... I ended up buying 9 single gallons, an extra 10 yards of mat tape(12" cut in half) and making 5 trips to costa mesa not to mention spending about 200 too much. if u have any other questions feel free to ask here or PM me.

You'll need a bigger gap between floor locker and the rest of your floor for carpet to fit and mesh.

maybe ive been huffing too much resin, but i cant seem to wrap my head around what ur sayin.

and the new "firewall" being PB'd in, and the back of the ski locker... also all the holes are filled with PB and marine putty

Boy, my one regret when I had mine all tore apart... I would have ran my throttle cable under my floor and come up a gradual rise through conduit severed on a bologna cut so I wouldn't have that red cable under my bare left foot.

I wasnt sure the extent of the rot until i got in there to tear it out.. turns out it was all rotted! when i started to pull up the old wood I noticed that the bottom side had absolutely no epoxy, paint, or anything to seal it from moisture from the bottom up.

if its a HEI distributor theres a chip inside under the rotor... thats probably toast once you slapped some positive juice up the negative...   you can crank it over and pull a plug and see if you're getting spark.

TOTAL BONEHEAD MISTAKE!! and feel like a total dummy! Went out to the river this weekend to do some wrenching on the boat, drop it in the water and do a test run. Then tow it home to replace the floor. Well in my rush to get everything hooked up and in the water before the rain started again I swapped the wires on my No.1 battery. I flipped the switch and immediately saw my wires glowing red, tried to flip the switch back off but it erupted in white smoke and was going for a good 15 seconds before i could reach back in and shut it off.

Visible damage:
Positive wire from #1 battery to switch melted
Positive wire from #2 battery to switch melted
Negative wire from #1 battery to ground melted
Negative wire from #2 battery to ground melted

The common wire from the switch to the starter stayed intact.
The stereo wires both positive and negative which were connected to #2 battery both stayed intact.

I replaced the switch with a new perko
New positive wires for #1&2
New negative wires for #1&2
New common wire, switch to starter.

2 new batteries

Hooked up everything yesterday for a test fire, stereo worked, But I got no response from the motor.

What else do i have to replace? My thought is the starter, but this board has the knowledge, I don't. Any advice is helpful, I'm trying my best not to take it to a shop and spend unnecessary money.

Hey all, I recently picked up a 1988 20.5 open bow jet that needs a bit of interior work(new floor.I'll post pics from start to finish). Im not sure of the maker or if theyre even in business anymore. But ive been browsing the boards here and found some pretty good info and decided to join. I'm 100% new to boating other than what i know from river trips over the years, but this is my first experience with my own. Im looking forward to learning more about this lifestyle
