Well after much thought about giving up and finding a better condition boat Ive decided to take this on as a project. Its my first boat and i intend to learn a lot. I payed about 500 bucks for it, with a tandem axle trailer, tore apart good condition bbc, and an American turbine converted 12yj with place diverter.

On my way home, dragged it all the way from Crecent city up to Portland, was kind of on the way home from a trip down there, enough so that i justified buying it 


about a year later, i dragged it out and started working on it, this was yesterday.















As you can see there is lots of rot, the stringers apear to be full length and so far i have removed all the way up to the start of the bow, havent dug into the front yet though.

removed the stringers, and did lots of grinding on the glass/resin to get it all smoothed out, still have alot to do, but hopefully i can get all the smoothing and prep done in about half a day, maybe next weekend or a couple evenings this week after work.

Always have motor swaps going on in the shop, normally little tuner motors with big turbos.
Excited to build a real displacement motor!

you are correct, i have never seen one like that,

im sorry bud but, i would sell all the parts to buy a better boat, that thing is gunna kill you in time and money.. not trying to be harsh, just trying to save you from endless dollars spent to have just an OK boat...

Not the first time i have heard that, but it is the first time ive heard it from someone that knows a thing or two about these boats. Fortunatly for me my time and labor is essentially free and i like the experience and satisfaction of building it myself, but i know i have to draw the line somewhere....

Can you elaborate on what makes the boat just and "ok" boat even after the repairs are done?

I am trying to do this on a budget and since i already have the boat and my time doesnt cost anything im hoping im doing the right thing....So if you can keep all that in mind, do you still think im better off finding a better condition boat? What would i pay for a boat without a pump or motor thats in good condition?

i dont want to say its bad, but, it is not the most desirable out there. the pump and diverter are worth more than you paid for the boat.

This is my main reason for buying it, the seller didnt know anything about the pump, i did some research based off the pictures he sent me and decided it was worth it.

I picked up this 78 apache for 500 bucks with the trailer(looks like hell), a disassembled good condition bbc, and a jacuzzi/ge 12yj with an american turbine conversion pump, seemed like a good enough deal to me.

About a year later i finally got around to tearing into this thing, i knew the stringers were pretty bad and they have to be replaced but im not sure about the transom.
The boat has had some fiberglass repair work done previously as seen in the pictures and a lot of it appears pretty shitty.

The transom appears to be just fiberglass or maybe very thin wood and fiberglass.
