I bought the mini quick latch for $27 a piece. Even after upgrading the springs it was still less than $35. Sorry I misspoke they are rated for 150lbs a latch before failure. Still don't think that will be a problem.

Just bought these. Quick-latch.com  can hold up to 600lbs a piece. Look really good. Set up the same way as hood pins.

You can. But unless you have already have a head unit installed, running it straight to the amp or through a eq will allow you to keep your dash untouched.  Also a head unit doesn't put out a lot of power, 17 watts is about the highest (I know the box says a million). Under powered speakers blow much faster than speakers that have ample wattage due to distortion. What kind of speakers were you planning on running? Look at the RMS wattage of the speakers not the peak and match that to a amp again to the RMS per Channel or the other way around. Polk db series is what I run they are marine grade and the 6 1/2 are not too pricey. Just my two cents.

Hook this up instead of running straight into the amp. Now you have a wireless audio source. Works great.

1976 18' spectra. Pioneer deck, clarion eq, kicker 700.5 amp, polk sr 10 subwoofer, 4 kicker 6x9. All ran via Bluetooth off iPhone. 35 feet away from the boat and I can still change volume and song. Downloaded a app that allows me to broadcast my signal to other I phones. This summer we will have 5 boats all with similar setups synced to the same playlist. Should be loud!!
