10-4 so are you leaning towards a carb tuning issue?

get a rough idea what my curve should look like? Start to come in at about 1500 rpms? And full by 3 3500? Should I pull the cover and see what cam I have?

Gt, Timing is at 36. And like a idiot I totally looked over the curve. I will have to look at it and get back on that..might be a while since the boat is winterized at this point.        Yellow jacket, so I though the smaller the number the longer the nozzle sprays? And the bigger the shorter but more fuel? Also what ever we figure out I am going to a tube style nozzle. What pump is in it now prolly a 30?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Bog issue
« on: February 21, 2015, 08:10:59 PM »
Have a carb issue. Last season rippin around in my sanger seemed like it would run great but if I wanted to do a pass from a dig it would bog for a sec then go. 468 bbc high rise dual plane intake its got the good stock oval port heads mystery cam.. marine 750 holley vs's has #25 squirters pump cam looks to be white? Pulled the spring out of the secondary diaphragm housing.  The check ball is not in there. And it had a plain spring I threw a yellow spring in it. And buttoned it back up. Anyways question is do you guys think it is a primary side issue like cam or squirter issue or vacuum secondary issue where the secondaries are not opening up right away?? I dont see any black smoke out the stacks.

No prob. I actually like it more now sprints are more rare and def unique its like the cool style of both worlds in one boat. V-drive style top with a jet.

So I went out and measured the boat tonight it is 110" which would make it a custom sprint. Also I do see the tightness in the sides bybthe engine bay justike the v-drives.

Ok...just stating what i thought I knew about the boat here... not necessarily disagreeing with any one sheesh.  Its not like  being a super sprint is bad. Its a better hull then the super jet just stating what I know and what the previous owner told me. Thanks for the input.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Milky oil around the distributor
« on: October 16, 2014, 11:25:37 PM »
Like guys have said. Keep a eye on when water starts to come out your headers. What rpm. And are they cold all the time? You could  have a stuck open or weak check ball and spring in your t valve and thus too much water pressure at low rpms resulting in sucking or filling back through your cylinders and then contaminating your oil. Alot of guys run a secondary manual water valve also. So you keep it shut and cut off water to the headers at low rpms and then open It when you get on it. I though my boat had the t valve issue eneded up being a rotten intake gasket on my 468.

Most likley is a small intake gasket leak. What kind of exhauat are you running?

Id remove the choke and the choke flap on the carb and then take it out to be sure. No need for choke anyways.

« on: September 04, 2014, 02:47:21 AM »
Thanks guys and GT. Yeah I know the slop is normal from previous boats but the oil color is not lol so I will see whats going on this weekend! Is the only way to regulate when the bassets come in by the stiffness of the spring in the Bassett t valve there? Id like mine to come in later if possible seem like they come on really soon. Like 1500 to 1800 rpms or so. Boat idles at 900 to 1k but again back to the boat I will take some pics and let you guys know what I find here! Thanks for the help.

Yeah I have herd of guys having issues with the bbc intakes leaking. I guess it could be a head gasket aswell but with the milkshake it has I would think it would be smoking a bunch out the pipes. Im going to rip and reseal the intake and clean and do a oil change this weekend and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas. I will mess with the idle temp too with the water valve also.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Dreaded milkshake
« on: September 03, 2014, 10:16:31 PM »
Bought my 77 sanger a few weeks ago have had it out 4 or 5 times second to last time I had it out I bought new valve covers and noticed there was a little milkshake in the corners of the heads. The Oil still looked good. So I cleaned it alll up slapped the new covers on and figured it was just some condensation. This last week I was out all weekend runnin my boat with ckaz and his tahiti and we were runnin em really hard. Had a great weekend. Came home checked my oil and its getting pretty greyish and there was slop in my breathers. Was thinking about stuff and rememberd the guy I bought it from always ran it with the water valve all the way open. Boat has wet stacks and Bassett t valve. No t stat. Has a water valve on the onlet and a water valve on tge outlet hose aswell. This has got to be way to much pressure for the engine. I know some guys run a pressure relief valve. And some guys run a 2nd dump hose to lower block pressures. The boat never gets hot cruise 100 115 idle 135 145 degrees. What is the best way to plumb and regulate these things? I know it might be a touchy topic. Not looking to do a t stat. I need a better way to regulate block pressure here.

I bought a sanger superjet a couple weeks ago and have had it out 2 times and it runs great but just seemd to be lacking that top end... Looked under my boat to inspect the rock grate and intake area and boom lol a bunch of knotted mess! Used my snapon impact driver on the phillips screws and removed the rock grate and untangled some of the mess and took a pic. I cut the rest out with my knife. We will see how she runs this weekend.
