Jet Pumps / Old style Dominator Bowl
« on: June 13, 2009, 03:28:11 PM »
Hello, I have an old style Dominator bowl, the one with the water lubed shaft bearing, and the steering nozzle that is part specific. (only fits the old style dominator bowl), it’s not Berkeley compatible. The flange is too large on Berkeley equipment to fit the bowl.
I have machined the dominator bowl to accept a Berkeley steering nozzle. The question is. What is the best diameter to enlarge the exit opening of the bowl to? I would like the transition angle from the bowl to match the steering nozzle angle as much as possible. If I open it up so the plains are the same (so it’s a strait line, no step) I will be cutting into the stators, and I think the opening will be close to 6.25”
 Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time, schick

Flash, those tanks came out of a 1975 19” Tahiti if that helps. I got the boat and trailer for $320.00. May be you can find a similar package. Keep the tanks, sell the rest. It was a Craig’s list deal. Good luck with your search. schick

Ralph, take the filter element and put it in a jar or something that you can seal. Put some solvent in with the filter, and shake the piss out it. Then pour the solvent threw a clean white rag. I use an old T-shirt as a screen filter. This will rinse out what the oil filter trapped, and make it easer to see whats been trapped. I also run a magnet under the material, if it moves it’s ferrous, (magnetic) from the block, rods, crank, etc… . If it doesn’t move it’s not ferrous meaning, bearings, pistons, valve guides, etc… . If you need more in-depth analysis you can send it in for spectrometer analysis. The company will burn the oil and measure the spectrum of light bands that is given off. Different bands of light mean different metal elements. They will send you a list of what they find, and what it means. Costs between 30-50 buck. schick

The No Wake Zone / Re: Guns 2009
« on: February 28, 2009, 10:04:35 AM »
Whell just be glad the new attorney general thinks that the second amendment does not give the right to bare arms. With this philosophy we’ll all be safe. (sarcasm) In Germany, in the 1940’s they did the same thing. If you owned a gun you had to register it. Them the government had a list to collect from. If you didn’t relinquish your guns, you had to sit in jail until the firearm was recovered.
The chipping away has started for socialized medicine also. The government is going to streamline the medical industry. That in it self is an oxymoron, “ government streamlining anything” Is the DMV streamline, is the IRS streamline, just to mention a few. The new stimulus package is going to automate the medical profession with the pretense of saving money. While automating, it will be regulated. The professionals and industry will be required to jump threw government hoops. This will screw the industry up. This is what happened in the Mortgage industry. Look where that’s gotten us.
The economy is in this shape because the government is medalling in it. If they would just leave it alone it would correct it self. It might be painful, but there would not be 1.5 trillion in NEW dept. The president says in one breath “We have to learn to live within our means”, in the next breath he says “We need the 800 billion dollar stimulus bill to save the economy” Which is it? If the country is in a hard spot because people over barrowed. Then how are we going to fix it by more barrowing form our future?
