Project Boats For Sale / 1989 Jemcraft jet boat hull (minus motor)
« on: February 08, 2018, 08:02:45 PM »
Selling my Jemcraft jet boat hull with Berkeley pump. Place diverter. Newer interior. Minor paint blemishes and scratches on the surface. Not the cleanest boat but she runs good. Set up for a BBC. Drop in your power and go. $3,000.

PM me for any other questions. I will be home end of February if anyone is interested in looking at it then.

Yeah, I don't have that plate under my valve cover. Is it something that can get installed easily? I'll try getting the baffled rubber grommets first and see what happens

Yes, it's a 10 quart pan. So the baffles are a rubber piece that sit in the valve cover? I know mine are open venting to the breathers so the foam inside just get soaked in oil and ends up leaking out

Brand new 461 BBC. Probably 9-10 qts. oil in it now. Has rubber grommets on breathers. Explain the evac system, like a puke tank?

It's a brand new engine. I just figured the crankcase pressure is too high

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Breather caps leaking
« on: July 24, 2017, 10:01:24 AM »
So I had the boat out this weekend, ran solid, but the breather caps on either valve cover leak pretty good and create a mess, like oil all over the hull and in the bilge. Some might be coming from the valve cover gaskets themselves too. Just curious what some people would do in this case, if you installed a puke tank or put different breathers on or installed a pcv valve. And pics if you have them. Thanks!

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Top mount starter 454 BBC $150
« on: June 14, 2017, 01:58:41 PM »
Starter has maybe 5 cranks on it. Used it a couple times before I had to change out my bell housing and go with a bottom mounted one. Built out of VES in Murrieta. $150.

It was a nice starter. But I had to put a new bell housing on and couldn't find one with a rear mount starter hole.

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Tunnel ram (Weiand??) for sale
« on: May 29, 2017, 12:32:42 PM »
Got rid of the the tunnel ram set up on my motor. It might be a Weiand but I'm unsure. Has the adapter on for the single carb mount on top. Has an Edelbrock 600 mounted on currently. I'll remove that later unless someone wants it. $100 OBO. Located in Temecula

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Engine Lift/ assistance needed
« on: January 22, 2017, 12:43:43 PM »
So I need to pull the engine on my boat. Ended up shearing a bolt for the starter in the block. Should be an easy fix (drill it and use an easy out to thread it out). May need to replace the flywheel as well. It's gotten a little chewed up with the issues I've been dealing with. If anyone is willing to help a jet boat brotha out, let me know. I live in Temecula, so if anyone is local or inland empire, that'd be great.

No idea. Some dinky little distributor with no label on it. I was thinking of switching that out soon. What would you go with?

Roger. So I don't even want the "S" in it. I'm going to grab one tomorrow, MR43T

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Spark plugs used in 454 BBC?
« on: January 17, 2017, 09:21:01 PM »
Old plugs are looking a little...well, old. New plugs might freshen it up. I have CR43T plugs in now. The auto parts store had MR43LTS plugs but I found the threads to be a little longer. Afraid it might be too long and hit the piston. Unless someone knows that I'll have enough clearance, I'm not going to install these just yet. Going back to another store to find the shorter threaded ones tomorrow. What's everyone else running in a stock 454 motor?

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Re: Oil used in 454 BBC?
« on: January 12, 2017, 11:58:08 AM »
Oil was milky when I bought it. This will be the first oil change before I take it out and run it. If the oil returns to its milky color, I'll know something else is up, maybe some water leaking into the sump. But as far as the smoking exhaust, that could be worn out piston rings or cylinder wear?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Oil used in 454 BBC??
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:44:21 PM »
Want to know what type of oil you guys might be running in a stock 454 motor. Just got my engine running after the starter issue from last week and after buying the boat. The oil in there currently is a bit milky looking, like it could be some water in there. When I went to fire it up, it was smoking out of the valve cover breather cap, and a bit out of the exhaust too. Guessing this could be a little blow-by from the piston. What oil, if any, would eliminate this problem and provide good lubrication.
