Interior / Basic Upholstery upgrade needed
« on: April 28, 2019, 04:57:30 PM »
I’m sure it’s been posted a million times but I’m super busy and can’t sort through all the posts.  I’m looking for someone who can upgrade my upholstery in a 1988 commander open bow boat.  I’m not looking for fancy, just new.  The vinyl is cracked and peeling.  Please send suggestions of someone who is fair priced.  This is not a necessity for me but more of a want.  I have a kid on the way so go easy on me!  Thank you for suggestions and your time!

Matt

Does anyone know a good place to buy carpet for my boat?  I don't need anything crazy expensive.

Yeah I saw that ad. I asked the guy about it and he said it was a scam. It made sense because there were no other pictures posted and his contact info from the original post was not on that one. It was also flagged for fraud. Plus it was in an entirely different city than where I picked the boat up from. The boat is in pretty good condition for being nearly 30 years old. The vinyl upholstery is a little cracked and the carpet needs to be replaced. Other than that the engine runs great and the pump was rebuilt as well. It has a hydraulic place diverter that had the lines replaced. He also replaced the drive line and throttle cable.  All the dials work and it purrs like a kitten.  I felt super comfortable doing business with this guy because he's a family man like I am and he was super straightforward about everything. He had his pink slips in hand and was really cool about everything. I didn't get the sense that I was being ripped off. I just wanted to check to see what you guys thought. Here are some pictures for you guys to see:

Let me know what you think!

Cheers

So I'm curious.  This boat has a good gel coat, Good interior, rebuilt Berkley pump with hydraulic place diverter and it's an open bow 21'.  The engine is a 454 BBC and it's been tuned.  All the hydraulic lines have been replaced as well as as drive and pump lines. The guy is asking $7500.  Is that a good price for the boat or am I being ripped off?

I love opinions!  I'm more curious about why.  What's the difference in torque and so on.  If you don't mind explaining.  The funny thing is I am good at rebuilding engines and what not I just don't know which one is which and why they function differently.

I'm currently buying a boat with a 454 Chevy in it but I have a rebuilt 455 Olds sitting in my garage.  Which engine is better for towing skiers?  I feel like the 454 is better only because parts are easier to come by and cheaper but the 455 has more workhorse power.  Should I leave the 454 in the boat or replace with my 455?  Thoughts?  Oh and it's a 21' open bow commander boat.

Looking for a decent hull.  My dream hull would be an open bow but I'm also not looking to spend a fortune.  I am looking for a decent floor (not soft or completely rotten) and upholstery if possible.  I have power so no motor necessary.  Thanks!
