« on: February 12, 2018, 09:35:45 AM »
so I ran the boat for about 10 min around the lake. when I would slow down to idle I would notice it was idling high. I turned off the motor and back on and it was fine. What would cause it idle higher after running?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Points conversion...
« on: June 06, 2017, 08:40:49 AM »
So here is where i am at. I bought a PerTronix Ignitor® Solid-State Ignition Systems ML-181. For the coil i bought a PerTronix 40511 Flame-Thrower 40,000 Volt 3.0 ohm Coil. The current coil I have is a Accel 8140c 12v (from what i saw online it has 1.4 ohms).

So here is my questions as I am concerned with jumping 1.4 ohms to 3.0 ohms.

Will i be able to use the current wires on the 3.0 ohms?

What is better the 3.0 ohms or the 1.5 ohms and why is it better?

Sorry if they are dumb questions as I am still learning. I just don't want to create issues. Thanks in advance for your help.

20.5 jet

so what would be the best options? Thanks

The No Wake Zone / Engine and Jet tune up
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:52:57 AM »
I want to take the boat in over the winter to have a good once over. nothing is wrong with it but I think it would be a good idea to have someone do a full tune up (maybe adding a couple bolt on parts). Where in OC would be a good place to take it and what would I be looking at in cost?

The No Wake Zone / Drilling holes for exhaust tips....How?
« on: March 30, 2016, 11:49:52 AM »
I just picked up a new exhaust and getting rid of the logs. I now need 4" Vs. the 3" that is currently on the boat. so my question is how do I cut a clean hole in the transom to start. I found a drill guide online but I don't see anyway of holding it straight without bolting in on. also I know this may sound dumb but what about adding a couple layers of exhaust hose to the current tips to bring them to 4". thanks for the help

The No Wake Zone / Exhaust questions
« on: February 09, 2016, 09:12:33 AM »
I noticed at the end of last season one of the logs was leaking at the riser. I pulled both but the one that was leaking is damn near impossible to separate from the riser. I am thinking of buying a new set. I have included a picture of the ones I was looking to buy but was wondering if it would be better than logs (more power ect). also I was looking on CP but I was not able to locate the gaskets and bots. Any idea on where to get these?

The No Wake Zone / Exhaust manifold and logs questions
« on: November 13, 2015, 06:40:34 PM »
Ok so I removed both to put new gaskets on (had a small leak). I know this is probably a dumb question as I am learning as I go but should I clean out the insides and if so how should I do it?  Motor is a bbc 454. Thanks for your help

The No Wake Zone / 454 BBC re-build and maybe some more power
« on: October 19, 2015, 05:45:40 PM »
Current ride - 1993 20.5 open bow Hardin 454 BBC (stock with a covered engine compartment). I live in orange county and need some advice as the limited knowledge I have I think it would be best to let a pro do the re-build. The boat has run great over the 8 yrs I have had it but now I think is the time for a preventative maintenance. To my knowledge everything is original. I am seeing area on the logs where it looks like it might be leaking. Where is a good place to take it in so cal and how much should I expect to pay. on top of that I would really like to gain some MPH in the process.

I was thinking of adding a drop snoot and ride plate but I would imagine that would really just be for the hole shot. What could I do with out braking the bank and keep the motor reliable?

The No Wake Zone / Buying in Bullhead? good or bad idea?
« on: September 28, 2015, 01:37:53 PM »
So I am thinking of buying a river pad. my question is bullhead a good area. I hear stories of boats being stripped and house being broken into on a regular (not sure how true). Someone also said to look at willow valley just up the way. Does anyone own out there or have a suggestion or experience out there?

The No Wake Zone / Right way to run batteries?
« on: June 08, 2015, 08:44:19 PM »
I have two batteries (one for stereo, one for starter). I have them set just like perko shows me. I have a one wire alternator (not much how many amp but not a lot). I am trying to avoid dead batteries in the water. When I am beached I turn the perko switch to just the stereo. When I am running the boat should I have it in all or just the starter battery? I have heard both ways but can't get a definitive answer.

The No Wake Zone / Running from the Avi to Pirates?......
« on: May 11, 2015, 04:13:17 PM »
Do i need to know the river like the back of my hand?

I made this run last year and was told to just stick the AZ side and i would be fine. I was luckily and had no issues. i did float for a little ways (which turned out to be a perfect time). while floating down the water was less than a foot deep (i think around Needles). the way back seemed fine the whole way. The point of this question is that someone told me that only make that run if you know that part of the river really well or most likely could find some rocks. Headed out to Avi on memorial and wanted to run up that way a time or two. Just trying to see if there is some parts to really avoid.
