Engine Mechanical / Electrical / New 455 build for my Spectra
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:45:49 AM »
Well after 12 years of owning this boat, the engine let go.:(   I went on a search and I was able to get a nice used engine from craigslist believe it or not.  Just got word from my machine shop that the block, crank, and rods are all good and all machine work has been done.

The bore is +.030 and I have forged 10:1 pistons coming.  I had a few nice aftermarket peices on the old engine that I am going to use on this one.  Accel HEI, Torker intake, Holley 850 vac sec, and I am keeping the heads from that old engine which are fresh K heads that have been matched to the intake.  As of right now, there is no $$$ in the budget to change the valve train so I must stick with the stock non adjustable rockers.  From what I have read, you really dont want to go much past .500 lift with this set up.

The reason I ask this is because the engine I picked up last week came with a fresh Engle 20/22 that is spec'd at .496 intake and .512 exhaust lift.  Safe cam??  The boat is not going to be driven like I stole it.  Just cruising the river in Parker, pulling skiers, and maybe hit the lake in Big Bear where I live.  I wish I knew the cam specs from the original engine.  it was the 335HP version.

Another thing I need to find out is what plugs to run.  Being that I am going to have quite a bit more HP than the old engine would lead me to believe that I need to run a slightly different plug.  I appreciate any and all thoughts on this.  Thanks!
