Hi All - have a used (new to me) set of above with snails; there are two fittings on front of log and two larger fittings on snail; one of these is blocked with plug.  Question is what is hookup for front two small fittings and one snail fitting.  Have closed system so is there a way to preheat the water thru logs and send into the water pump? ideally this would be working prior to thermo opening.  also on SBC water pump their is plug on pump - what is this for?...also have one fitting on front of intake manifold available.........thxs kenai

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / carbon in antifreeze!
« on: January 12, 2013, 01:12:22 PM »
Hi All - have a closed system (jrt pump to heat xchanger to logs) and I am seeing carbon (black stuff) in my antifreeze.  trying to figure out where carbon-exhaust sees antifreeze in the engine. oil is fine; no loss of power but have not compression tested....thxs kenai

the jet pump water goes thru the exchanger but doesn't contact the coolant/antifreeze used by the engine and all of this is 'upstream' or before the cooling water runs into the front side of the logs.  so knowing there isn't any interface in the logs with antifreeze; looks like the carbon contact is in the heads or engine; // does the intake manifold have any contact with carbon?...thxs kenai

Hi All - just installed a pressure regulator (boost) on my 350/berkeley pump boat.  all that equipment checks out fine. the cooling system is closed - jet pump to exchanger to barr log exhaust.  the regulator knocks back the pressure and volume of water going thru the exchanger and out the logs.  after installation i noticed carbon in my antifreeze...with a closed system I am scratching my head trying to figure out how carbon could even get into the antifreeze.  anyone run across this before...thxs kenai
