Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 exhaust manifold gasket

I had to pull my logs off to change my starter and the gaskets that were on there fell apart when I attempted to reinstall them. Seeing as there's no boat shop open near me can I run just a basic auto gasket or do I need to get marine ones?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Water in the oil

So my string of bad luck continues I just got my pump back from gs Marine took the boat out today and found water in the oil. I'm not sure what caused it due to the fact the motor ran grate all day it never missed a beat. My question is I'm going to the river in 2 weeks should I just change the oil and run it or park it and cancel my trip ?

Alright guys so the last few months I've been extremely frustrated with the boat it's just been problem after problem and frankly I'm pretty much over it. but the last few years I've been going to glamis with my old lady's family so I've been thinking about trading the boat for a sand toy but I don't know what to do help me out here.
By the way I'll still have the jet boat my dad and I share so ill still be on the water

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Motor doesn't want to start!

I have a 460 motor and I haven't messed with it much sense October and I'm trying to get it fired up and its start to fire up and then back fires.
So I cleaned the old gas out and cleaned the carb checked the plugs and wires they seemed fine. I'm thinking it's a timing issue but when it comes to timing I'm about useless. Also I just went to give it another shot and and I noticed the carb is now leaking pretty bad I'm guessing it might be from it back firing because it wasn't doing it before

Random Boat Parts For Sale / Steering tube nut for jacuzzi needed!!

Does anyone happen to have a steering tube nut for a jacuzzi wj pump. I can't seem to find just a nut an everyone wants to sell me the hole kit for one parts and the kits like 80 bucks

Jet Pumps / how slow will i be out of the hole

i have a 460 that's basically stock with a jacuzzi wj pump with an a impeller thats needs a rebuild but i cant swing 800 bucks to have it rebuilt right now. i found a used pump with a b impeller in it my question is how slow will be out of the hole. fyi i pretty much use the boat for skiing only at local lakes i dont do much for cruising around unless im at the river.

My brother in laws mom offered to sell me her 2001 dodge 2500 cummins with 160,000 miles for $7000 and has always been takin cave of extremely well and only is driven to pull a 22 foot horse trailer. My question is, is this worth it I don't know a lot about diesels so what is your guys thoughts about it

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / the boat shop forgot something in my motor

on saturday i took the boat out to elsinore for the first time ever it ran grate for about 10 min long story short i shot a rod out of the oil pan whhen i got home i pulled the motor. first thing i took off was the oil pan and found my rod and a bunch of chunks of metal and what looked like red barf and it was everywhere inside the motor second i pulled off the intake manifold off where i found a red shop rag sitting in there. so when i took the boat to have it tuned up and the intake manifold gasket changed they forgot to take the rag out of there

So today took the boat out for the first time. And it ran great until I got to the far side of Elsinore and the water temp went up to about 220 so stopped and waited for it to cool down. So i started going again the temp went back down to 160 and next thing I knew the motor cut out and smoke pumping out of the carb and the oil breather so after we got towed back in by a scjb member didn't get his name but thank you if you see this but I pulled a hose off the exhaust manifold and there was no water in there so I'm thinking the water pump but not sure

I have a 460 with I mild cam and I've had issues with it idling and it's hard to get started in the morning. It has Holley 650 double pumper and a family friend of mine that use to build race motors said I need a bigger carb what are your guys thoughts ?
