SoCal Lakes / Lake Perris Saturday 4/12
« on: April 11, 2014, 09:31:31 AM »
Going to tow the kids around the lake Saturday 4/12 at Perris.  We tried last weekend at Elsinore and found out  you can't tow inflatables...tiny, tiny blurb on their regs.  Fu*kers!

See ya on the water!

Dropping in my backyard tomorrow...anyone up for some morning fun?

Drained, dried, and cleaned the bilge today...do they inspect all the boats like at Big Bear?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Gauge Set Up
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:58:02 PM »
Ok,  since my RPM's peak and hold at 6k, and the fuel was wrong (ran out last weekend), I assume all the gauges are wrong.

Can you guys help me get in the ball park on what are normal limits for a stock Ford 460..water temp, oil pressure, etc...

Thanks.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Manual
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:38:01 PM »
So I found a manual for a 77 Ford pickup at the local Autozone...is that my best bet for specs on my Ford 460?

Are there marine manuals, or high performance manuals suggested from some of you older jet captains?

The No Wake Zone / New Boat

Hey All,
Got one!  1976 Infinity Day Cruiser w/460 & Berkley jet.

Spent Saturday on the water out of Fisher's Landing...miles of smiles!  Got my first tow, ran out of fuel (note to self, fuel gauges DO NOT WORK!)

Got a couple questions for the group:
1. Do jets steer like ass or what?
*never operated one, this one is lazy to turn on the plane and at idle, forget it, break out an oar!
2. Are the Berkley rudders worth the $129? Pros/Cons?
3. Is anyone running a rack and pinion steering?  Pros/Cons?

Hey All, so I have found some boats that I like (how many times has this been said, lol)  Could you guys take a look see and straight up opinions on craftsmanship and value...also particular things to stay away from:

The No Wake Zone / Buying a jet boat...
« on: March 15, 2014, 10:58:07 PM »
What to look for?
What to stay away from?
Is cost relative, not what KBB or NADA says?

Thanks guys, any info would be great.  Looking to strike soon and meet ya'll on the river.

Oh, I am looking at a '77 Eliminator this week.  $2500-$3000...Ford 460, Berkley pump...possible new floors...he has it posted on here for sale.  Thoughts?

Thanks,
Chris

The No Wake Zone / So a guy walks into a Forum...
« on: March 15, 2014, 10:43:13 PM »
Hey All,
New guy here. I've been reading up on some posts and this looks like a great place to start my new adventure with my family, jet boats! We have already done the classic restoration thing (back in my 20's, won't do that again), desert motorsports, and now I'm ready to be that old, fat, tan guy with a bad ass boat the kids can brag about...the boat, brag about the boat, not fat tan dad, lol

It's great to see there is a healthy mix of extremes here, just like any other mechanical thing that spins & whirls...man will always be fascinated and have some better idea than the other guy (I tend to go with the longevity wins crowd).

I look forward to reading up on this new venture of mine and conquering another platform that holds an engine!

Oh yeah, so I have about $8k (and a nice 4 seat off-road car if someone is looking for a trade, $10k value)...I was thinking Eliminator for the platform, Berkley for the pump, and would like to stay with a Chevy power plant...I don't mind sweat equity, but I am 45, not 25 and my days on the water are more valuable than in the shop anymore.

See ya in the funny pages,
Chris, Oceanside, CA
