Jet Pumps / Newbie questions on pump setup / Shoe / Rideplate
« on: May 18, 2014, 01:43:05 PM »
I am hoping someone can help me with my pump setup (Total Newbie!). I am putting together my first jet boat, It has a Berkley Jet pump labeled 2J  A.  It is in an 86 Daytona Sprint, already has Place Diverter with Droop. On the bottom of the droop are bolt holes for what I am guessing is a ride plate?  The locals are telling me that boat won't ever run without a shoe and a rideplate, but they guy I got it from is saying it ran tough as nails the way it is. I believe him seeing that he didn't short on anything when it came to his motor build and all the accessories. My question is should I take interest in setting up the pump differently, or keep it the way it is considering someone already took the time to engineer it that way. Another thing is I am running less HP than he was for sure so should I plan on impeller change? whats the best way to calibrate a new impeller? Thanks for any input.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / How to choose the proper cam?
« on: May 14, 2014, 04:12:33 PM »
So I picked up my first jet boat, a 1986 Daytona Sprint, and to power it I have a Chevy 489 Stroker with forged rotating assembly, 11.5:1 Compression topped with a set of Merlin Heads. The cam that was in the motor had grooves worn in it with mechanical roller lifters, the rockers took a hit as well (looks like one has been off a few times).  The motor was in a car, and will now be in a boat, I have had a few suggestions from some rookie locals, but would like some more input from someone who has experience. Another question is, what limits your RPM, or what is supposed to anyway, the cam or the pump?
