Hey what's up SCJB. Guess it's been longer than I thought since posting about my project(s). Started out with a '78 Tahiti bubble deck but soon traded that for a '72 Tiger that I thought was further along. Turns out it had a soft spot in the floor I just couldn't ignore. I'll post up some pics as time allows. It's finally starting to go back together but my son got into Kart racing so the budget suddenly became pretty slim!

Here's what she looked like the day I brought her home:

Jet Pumps / PD Pivot Pin Removal?

Aloha guys,

I'm getting ready to have the powder coating stripped off my Place Diverter and need to disassemble it. Everything seems pretty straight forward except the pins the reverse bucket pivots on. They're in a blind hole with no way I can see to push them out. Short of welding a bolt on the end and slide-hammering them out is there a trick I'm not seeing?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Best Way to Clean Inside Aluminum Fuel Tanks?

Just picked up a set of older aluminum saddle tanks that have been sitting for a while. There are "rocks" inside that crumble into powder when you squeeze them with your fingers. Assuming that's corrosion? Or something else?

I can get them out easy enough but was wondering if there's any sort of chemical/acid that can thoroughly clean the inside to get rid of any remaining corrosion. Any other recommendations?

I'd prefer to clean these up and use them as you wouldn't believe the cost of aluminum sheet here in Hawaii. Making new tanks is not really in the budget.

Any help appreciated!

Hulls / '72 Tahiti Tiger 18' vs '78 Tahiti Bubble Deck 19.5'... opinions?

Posted this in my project thread but that probably wasn't the best place to put it. Looking for input on which of these hulls might be a better choice for what I'm trying to do. Let me preface this by saying choices on hulls here in Hawaii is very limited which is why these are the 2 I'm comparing. I already have the '78 but haven't gotten too far on it yet.

Use: Mainly a fun ski boat for the family. Seating for 5 is a must. Occasionally I'd like to open it up and try to hit a decent speed in excess of 60 MPH (without kids). I'm building a mild Olds that I'm hoping will put down a touch over 400hp.

My main concern is hull design. The bottoms are noticeably different. I know neither is the greatest but does anyone know if either is considered "better" ? I've read the Tahitis can have stability issues so that's a concern. If one is known to be more stable I'd rather build that hull even if it costs a little more. Reason I'm even contemplating the swap is that the '72 is MUCH farther along than the '78.

Hello SCJB. I started an introductory thread over in the No Wake Zone but thought it might be better to detail my project over here instead. I bought this boat a few months ago and have been slowly making progress and acquiring parts.

The registration says it's a '78 Tahiti. Best I can tell from searching the interwebz and looking at pictures is that it's a Super Tiger Bubble Deck. It's the typical Olds 455 / Berkeley 12JC with A-cut impeller combo. I got a smokin' deal on it from a friend who got it from a guy that tried to use it as a submarine. Literally sank with nothing above water but the nose bobbing in the bay. After it washed up on the beach my buddy helped recover it and called me.

As you can imagine it's a project. The motor is out and about 3/4 the way through the machining process. There's a laundry list of things to do that seems to be getting longer rather than shorter! LOL! Here's where she's at in a buddy's yard waiting for me to make room for it at my place...

Aloha from Hawaii, SCJB. Came across this board a while back as I was Googling different things for my project '78 Tahiti Super Tiger Bubble Deck. Today I talked to Phil who was selling some parts I needed on eBay and he mentioned the forum... so here I am!

Owning a vintage jet boat has been an interesting experience. It hasn't run since I've owned it but it's always on my mind. It's almost like dating a hot chick you've never seen naked. I've spent thousands on her and she's still not ready to get wet...

I'll start a build thread with pics later but it's almost beer:30 so gotta run!
