Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Used 460 block sell or scrap?
« on: July 11, 2016, 10:52:56 AM »
I've got a 460 block that needs to have the cylinders worked and maybe some other things done to it. Is it worth getting the work done and try to sell it or just scrap it? Same with the crank..

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Vibration when starting motor
« on: May 15, 2016, 10:10:23 PM »
I've got a 460 Ford in my Galaxie boat. I just got done with a rebuild and threw the motor in the boat this weekend. Went to start it up and it had a pretty good vibration happening. I didn't let it run for more than a couple seconds so I don't do any damage to things. I put a new/used Berkeley pump housing in and everything is basically sitting in the same spot as it did before I pulled the motor (didn't vibrate this bad before). Few details...on my motor the bell housing has a piece that sits on the bearing cap with a clamp to keep things snug. (Pictures to come)
I've seen that there needs to be a degree at which the motor and pump are supposed to sit. What is the best way to get this angle of .5-3° while keeping everything straight? I am going to be taking the pump out and run the motor to cancel out the engine or the pump.

Any help would be appreciated.

New Pistons and cam. What are the steps I should take for the first start up and run?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 ford ring gap

What would be the proper ring gap for a 60 over piston rings? Attached are the Pistons I'm using.

I'm thinking of running an electric fuel pump online with my mechanical one. I'm trying to cancel out an issue I've been trying to chase for the past couple years (boat stalling mainly at high speeds). I put vents in the caps, rebuilt carb and checked for any leaks in my fuel pickups. Anyways, what's everyone's idea on this and should it go between the tanks and the mechanical pump or between the mechanical pump and the carb?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Exhaust to snail seal...
« on: April 15, 2016, 05:18:53 PM »
I've got a pair of water jacketed exhaust for my boat and I've been having a hell of a time getting a good seal between the exhaust and the snail. Any ideas on what kind of gasket I can use. I forget what I am using not but clearly it sucks cause it's leaking now. Ideas? Resurface the faces?

Thanks!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 build
« on: April 05, 2016, 08:47:39 AM »
I'm working on putting a rebuild motor back together for the season and want to throw the correct cam in it. I was looking at comp camp off of cp performance. (http://www.cpperformance.com/p-11679-comp-cams-cam-lifter-kit.aspx)

Not looking for huge power just like to cruise most of the time.

Any ideas other than this or some input on whether it's a good can or not?

Thanks

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 Ford stalling at high RPM
« on: July 06, 2015, 09:48:13 AM »
Took the boat out this past weekend to Havasu. Took a ride up to pirates from the landing and boat ran great all the way up there (was running at about 3200 RPM with an occasional pedal mashing). On the way back to the lake I switched tanks. Id like to add that I've checked all pickups and valves for suction on my tanks. The boat will start to bog down and I can pedal through it for a little bit but eventually it dies out on me completely. I can get it started after it stalls but it does the same thing. I've had this issue since I rebuilt the boat and have tried everything that makes sense to me. Anyone have any input?
