Trailers / Trailer Repair in Orange County

Hey all,

Anybody know of any outfits that do trailer repair in Orange County?
Got the engine out for rebuild & thought this would be a good time for some trailer work.
Need the fenders repainted & the bunks recovered. Boat is on the trailer so it would have to be someone that can lift the boat as well.

We're at the Hampton Inn through Saturday. First time on the river. So far just been running between McIntyre & The Cove. It would be great to meet up with some SCJB folks!

Random Boat Parts For Sale / PARTS FOR TRADE

Hey all,
I am looking to trade any of the following parts for your knowledge of the lower river & how to run it. I.E.: places to go, things to avoid, hazards to watch out for, etc., etc. Specifically around Blythe, but I'd like to learn about the river pretty anywhere south of Davis Dam.
Planning a trip to Blythe towards the end of July. Never been on the river there & pretty new to boating in general so I could use all the help I can get......
Parts are pick up only, I'm in Santa Ana.

Items:
1.Older model place diverter. Reverse chute has been milled down. Decent condition. (TRADED)
2. Split bowl nozzle housing with 2° wedge. (TRADED)
3. Scoop, Harman Marine, aluminum, 4150, with 3"x6" spark arrestor, hold down & cover. Mounted once & never used so basically new.
4.Grant steering wheel with 3" long black telex adapter.
5. BBC ski tow, chromed stainless, new.
6. Battery tray, o.k. condition. group 24.
7. MSD box mounting plate & hardware. For BBC cylinder head. (TRADED)
8. Demon 'Speed Demon' carb. 750, with about 6 hours of run time on the street. Includes the fuel rail. Excellent condition

The No Wake Zone / Lower River Advice

Hey all!
The wife & I are planning a Lower River trip towards the end of July (the 21th-25th). It would be our first trip with the boat to that area of the river. Looking for advice on best places to launch (The Cove, McIntyre Park, etc.)
Advice on whether the water above I10 (Water Wheel, Lost Lake, Aha Quinn) or below I10 (Desitny, McIntyre Park & below) is better or easier to navigate that time of year.
Also places along the river that are good hangout spots (I've read here about Goose Flats) as well as stuff to avoid (hazards).

We'll be there a few days so I was hoping during that time I could learn a bit about the river & her peculiarities in preparation for future trips, and as well as have a bit fun in the process.
Besides that, anyone planning on being down there around that time? It would be great to hook up with some fellow jet boaters.

The No Wake Zone / WINTER STORAGE

Hey all,

What would be best practices for winter storage? My first boat, & I don't see being able to take it out till March or April of next year, so she'll be stowed for about 6 months.
I'm in SoCal, so no freezing issues. Currently garaged & covered. About 4 gallons of 100 unleaded left in each tank....

Got a Mighty Demon 750 for sale. Excellent condition. About 4-5 hours of run time. Drilled throttle plates (3/32"). I tuned it for a specific application, so the jets, air bleeds & squirters, & pv are not stock configuration at the moment, but will change all that back to stock specs for buyer.
Includes feed lines.

Topock / Laughlin / Need advice on Lake Mohave & Jack Smith to Topock Gorge

Hey all,
Heading out to Laughlin for a few days, Sept. 23-25. Our first time taking the boat on a road trip & first time on Lake Mohave, & the river. Going to spend Saturday on the lake & Monday on the river.
Was wondering if anyone familiar with Lake Mohave had some suggestions on where to go on the lake this time of year? Better to launch out of Katherine's or Cottonwood? A nice quiet cove or two to chill in? Any things i should watch out for, or be aware of while on the lake?, etc.?
Also, how is the run from Jack Smith to the Gorge? Is that a doable day trip with a stop at Pirates Cove for lunch? Is the river around there pretty easy to navigate for a newbee, or will I be out of my depth, so to speak?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

SoCal Lakes / ELSINORE, The Real Scoop?

Hey all,
Been taking my boat up to Silverwood for testing & am thinking about Elsinore as an alternative, (mostly because it's closer to OC)
I keep reading about folks picking up sucking up rocks & stuff, other folks say it's fine out there.
What is the real deal?
What are the dangers, or things to watch out for, etc.?
Is it risky interns of possibly damaging your pump, or?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / OVERHEATED

Newbie, with my first jet boat & I think I screwed up already……

Finally got my Rogers on the water for the first time this past weekend. Everything was looking good at first, then she started overheating. Ended up pegging the temp gauge. Limped back to the dock & shut down the engine. Everything was hot including the logs & risers, & could hear the water boiling or creating steam in the block & exhaust.Even though I have logs & risers, I thought I would be a bit too clever & install a pressure relief valve. During the run the valve was leaking & I am pretty sure I had it adjusted to too low of a pressure. After getting it back on the trailer & thinking about it I am pretty sure the pressure relief valve was bleeding off enough pressure that the engine wasn't getting enough water volume from the pump, but that's just a guess. Checked the dipstick & didn't see any water in the oil, & engine ran well before I cooked it…..

[/size]The main questions I have are: Is it possible that I have fried or compromised the engine by running it that hot? Any ideas on what to do next to determine if I caused any damage?[/color]

WTB / WTB: SHORT BBC ski tow

Hey all,

Looking for a SHORT BBC ski tow in decent shape. Hopefully one that is not that swept back.
Reason is that there is not much room between the engine block & transom cover. (see pic)

I'll pay cash, or I you are interested, I have a new BBC ski tow purchased from Eddie Marine that I'll do a straight trade on. Standard tall style. Only did a test fit (didn't work out), perfect condition.

SoCal Lakes / Diamond Valley Lake?

Anybody know the scoop on Diamond Valley lake?
Says here: http://www.mwdh2o.com/PDF_NewsRoom/DVL_reopen.pdf that it's reopening the boat launch on May 18th. DVL website says it's 45% full.

I've never been so was curious if it would be a good alternative to Lake Elsinore, maybe deeper water?

The No Wake Zone / 1978 Hallett, any thoughts?

Hey guys & gals,

Continuing on the boat hunt. Went to see a 1978 19' Hallett bubble deck today. (see on site pics)

Original Owner. Bought late in '77, picked boat up in 78', HN ends with 78-1. Has been garaged all it's life except for last couple months, been outside under a towing cover + waterproof cover.
Rebuilt BBF, & pump., both done by Blair Speed Shop about a 1-1/2 years ago. 10 hrs on both motor & pump since rebuild. Imco fuel tanks. Place diverter.
Hull & stringers solid. Gelcoat in relay good shape. Minor chips on bottom edge of dash & a few marks under the keel but nothing major. Could use a cut & buff or at least a polish.
Interior redone. Carpet good. Upholstery in good shape. Done with period correct tuck n' roll.
Steering cable a little stiff, might need replacing. All other cables good.
Overall seems like a pretty clean, well cared for boat.

I was wondering if it would be possible to get some feedback, opinions, suggestions from you all?

**Owner has advertised for 15K on CL.
Called him a couple weeks ago, offered him 9K, he got back to me last week & said he would take the 9.
After seeing the boat, it seems to me 9K was still way too high. Offered him 7,000 on the spot & he declined……
How off am I on the $$ ?

Boats For Sale / Looking for my first lake rod

Hi all,

Newbie here. Looking for my first boat. Been on the hunt for a couple months & have yet to find something turn key that isn't actually pretty thrashed.
I live in Orange county & have driven to Mariposa & Phoenix & back looking at some prospects & have been pretty disappointed with the disparity between what was described & what condition the boats were actually in...

Traveling to Lake Havasu/Parker this weekend, & arranged to look at a couple of boats.
I was wondering if maybe anyone out there had a line on any rigs out that way that might be worth looking at?
Looking for a 1972-1982 boat. 18-19'. Closed bow. Turn key. I like the Miller & Rogers hulls, but not too set about that.
Got up to $8,500 to spend. Any more than that & the wife will start getting suspicious....
