Jet Pumps / Impeller Questions
« on: May 04, 2020, 06:53:23 AM »
New to the site.  Been looking for a good jet boat forum like I have with my Supra boat and looks like this is the place.

Jet Boat newbie.  Rebuilding a 1973 CeeBee Avenger Mach III.

Question:  I have rebuilt my Berkeley JC-A pump and just bought another pump.  The one I just bought very cheap has a stainless impeller in it.  Previous owner said his engine didnt have the torque to turn the stainless impeller to the proper RPM.  I was going to continue my build with the aluminum A cut impeller I have but now I am wondering if I should use the stainless impeller to complete it instead.

I am building a 468 BBC for the boat which will be built to have some high torque at lower RPM and HP of around 500 at about 5400-5500 rpm.  Am I better off with the aluminum A or should I go with stainless?  Or run them both?  Does the stainless require a different wear ring? Some said that I have to get it balanced, is that the case?  I think the HP rating is right on the line for when to switch over to stainless.  Over time I will probably build on the motor.

Thought I was just going to part out the pump and sell the impeller but now thinking I should hang on to it.  Again, pretty new to jet boats so I appreciate any insight you can provide.

thanks
Dan

The No Wake Zone / New Jet Boat Owner/New to the Forum
« on: April 30, 2018, 02:53:08 PM »
Hello,

Wanted to introduce my self to the forum.  Just bought a 1973 Avenger Mach III Jet Boat.  It is in pieces and needs a lot of work.  I am new to the jet boat world.  I previously restored and am a proud owner of a 1984 Supra Rider which has served as the family ski, wake and surfing boat for the past nine years but now looking to get into something new.  The Supra Forum was incredibly helpful in restoring and keeping my old Supra running.  Looks like this forum is the same.  Thank you in advance for any help you can provide to me.  I am a newbie so excuse my stupidity with jet boats.

The boat is solid, stringers, floor and transom are in good shape.  Someone did a terrible paint job on it.  Looks good from 10 feet but terrible up close.  Also, they painted over the green metallic flake gel coat.  I think I am going to go back to the original color.  Any thoughts on that?  I have a Chevy 468 big block with crank and rods but will I am going to have to build it from there.  Never built an engine before...so a newbie there again.  Its going to be a long term project.

Would love to hear from any members and get your insights and thoughts.  Really looking forward to become a part of the jet boat world.

thanks,
Dan
