Engine Mechanical / Electrical / What type of oil cooler to run?
« on: August 07, 2010, 10:40:58 AM »
I need to put a cooler on my bbc and would like opinions on the different type of coolers available.  I have seen the ones that are for sale by CP that require water to run thru them and then also there is a cooler at the local marine shop, the "fin" style.  And by fin, I mean a long tube with fins running down it length wise to distribute heat.
Motor that its going on... Desent built 454 without forced induction.   I have heard that the "fin" style would be fine for a naturally aspirated motor but just want to make sure before I spend the money...

Random Boat Parts For Sale / Rebuilt JG pump $600
« on: June 04, 2010, 04:22:13 PM »
I found this on Craigslist and thought it was a great deal.  I don't need it but someone else might.  Sh*t for the price you could probably buy it.... fix it up a little(if needed)... and sell it for $1000!  IMO..   ;D

I did talk to the guy, and he still has it.  Seems pretty motivated to get rid of it.  Says he rebuilt it for his boat but sold his boat before he could put it back in.  Has an "A" impeller in it, I know that much.

« on: June 04, 2010, 03:23:42 PM »

Aluminum "A" Impeller
Stuffer
Less than 10 hrs since rebuild
Blueprinted by CP Performance (less than 10 hrs)

Hydro Place Diverter *Comes with Pump and Switches*

Want's $1200 for it.

Thanks for the info.  And the best part about it is that is replacing my JC pump!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Which head gasket??
« on: May 01, 2010, 07:24:47 PM »
So a little background... I have a gen vi 454 with dart heads (pro 1) and is now a full hydrulic roller motor.  I have a jc berkeley pump with nothing special done to it,  guy i bought it from said it was blueprinted but....  i have a banderlog valve now for the headers but no relief valve off the pump.
Problem, put it all together and the damn thing blew a head gasket within 5 mins of being in the water.  there was so much water in the oil it seemed as if the oil was out of place more the water...   :banghead:  I didn't run a pressure regulator off the pump becuase it's a jc and there is nothing built about it.  I put the heads on with the gasket that dart recommended, Felpro 1047 and torqued it down to 70ft lb.
My question is what head gasket to use?  I understand that the one that dart recommends may be the best but not in this case.  Hopefully someone on here has had some experiance and can point me down the right road.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Ceramic coated OTT Headers....
« on: April 19, 2010, 04:21:27 AM »
Do you have to run water thru OTT headers that are ceramic coated?  I have chrome headers now but they are turning a different colors down the pipes (closer to the motor) and it's driving me nuts!
I am trying to get a banderlog header valve right now but if I decide against it, I will pay the same amount to get the headers coated.
So... Will ceramic coated headers maintain thier finish regardless of tempurature?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 454 Gen VI piston rings?!
« on: March 09, 2010, 07:47:28 PM »
So... building the motor and went to the local speed shop and picked up some new rings.  Even took them my old rings so that they could measure something and then they sent me home with a brand new box of Sealed Power e233 rings.  Great.... right?  Not so much  :banghead:
When i go to install the piston, the oil ring (the solid ones that go on top and bottom) will not collapse enough to allow it to fit.  I took a solid oil ring just to verify that there is no overlap, which there isn't so it's not too long.   but when i put them on over the fancy looking middle oil ring, it wont allow the rings to close all the way.  And that causes it not to fit.     :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
So any ideas?  I have a stock 454 Gen Vi, stock pistons, with stock bore.  I have been "googlein' all day but have come up with nothing.  help..

« on: March 08, 2010, 07:53:28 AM »
Looking for a set of black, or chrome, thru transom headers.  I would like to get some that are water injected, not the jacketed... So basically a set of Bassett headers but the thru transom type.   Not looking to break the bank either, but then again, who ever is?

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / BBC Parts..
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:44:54 AM »
I am currently rebuilding my motor and thanks to a few friends I have come upon some new parts so I will not be needing the stock stuff.  Here's what I got..

1- 1 Set of Gen V HO Heads, shows signs of leaking valves (#14097088)

2- Polished Intake Manifold (Not sure what kind, no #'s on it that I could find) Looks to be a dual plane.

3- Clay Smith Cam.  (#C-304-8-B)
**It is a solid type cam so if you buy the cam i will give you the lifters that were ran with it.

4- Set of fabricated Tall Valve Covers complete with tall breather.  Breather mounted towards the front on both valve covers

5- Complete set of pushrods

More may or may not be added to the list as I come up on more parts.  Pictures are to follow as well as part #'s.  Everything is at home so that's why I don't have them now.

If your interested in anything, send me a PM and the best offer gets it.

Lower River / TREE SWING IS GONE!
« on: July 20, 2009, 06:36:28 AM »
Went to Lost Lake this weekend and while going up river noticed that the Tree Swing is gone.  They did some construction work above it and move a ton of dirt taking out the tree.  You can't even see the tree no more where it used to be.   They did make some more beach where it used to be though so it's not that bad I suppose.  Good at  low water, high water it may not work as well.

« on: August 12, 2008, 01:49:08 PM »
So I think I may be taking the kids to a different lake after seeing this.  I saw this on ER once, never thought it actually happens.
Check out the link for the full article.  Doesnt' say that it is for sure that the boy got the parasite from Elsinore but it never says that he didn't get if from there either.
Just thought you should know.....

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Is it running Lean?
« on: July 01, 2008, 12:28:12 PM »
So I took the boat out last weekend to the river, and it did great!  Until the last day that is....  Ran the boat like crazy on Saturday with no problems, boat ran cool (120'F) and didn't have any problems.
Sunday though, boat still ran cool as it did on Saturday but when I pulled it out of the water, I noticed that the #1 and #3 header tubes up to the collector had turned blueish.   Now I know that this is a result from getting hot but what are some of the possible causes that could cause it just to happen on those 2 cylinders?  All of the other cylinder tubes are fine, and are still chrome so that's don't get hot.  :banghead:
I dont have the boat with me right now so I can't sit there and mess with stuff to try and figure out the cause so I figured I would get some ideas so I have somehere to start.

SoCal Lakes / Ever go to Silverwood??
« on: June 05, 2008, 09:01:47 AM »
I was thinking about going up to Silverwood with a buddy of mine and just curious if anyone has ever been with thier jet.   Curious about all rules they may have that I would need to be concerned about, such as running with baffles in, and if they care about using jetovators.  I know you are not supposed to use your jetovator in the vicinity of other people but you never know with these people.
Hopefully, I will get out there Monday and let you all know how it goes.
