Growing up my dad had flatty's but one of dads good friends had a sleekcraft jet. I rode in both.

This is me around 1972  The wierd thing is, throughout all our boat trips skiing and tubing none of us ever got cut on any underwater gear. I know we're supposed to (from what I've heard) but it doesn't seem to apply to the 4 decades and 3 generations of our family.

So to answer Rick's question... YES I've driven a flatty but jetboats are still cool to me anyway.

Dads boat ran better then any of my boats,it being a v-drive it pulled harder out the hole thanks to the 400 tranny  turns a hole lot different the the jets that being a good thing better on gas its a keeper Dad loves his boat.

What about the hydro's with the outboard steering where the rudder is way over to the right .

A hydro rides on half the propeller and those propellers are designed to lift. It's best to have the rudder in clean water.

where exactly is this. i know of the two off of 395 and the one in cal city. and of corse our local track up here in ridgecrest.

Oh on that note if there is anyone on here that rides you all should come up for the ridgecrest grand prix. it is half desert half track and half obsticle corse it is a blast. it is part of the view finders big six grand prix series. but we only run the ridgecrest one.

all are welcome. it is in the begining of oct.

Joe (Hustler) rides those grand prix's he says its a blast.

The rudder is offset to allow the propshaft to slide out without removing the rudder. A lot of older 60's boats still had the rudder centered.

Here's the skinny on the camping. In the past camping was permitted on both sides. Last year Ross had problems with some drunk campers making noise after 10:00 and the locals complained.

Unless you're part of Rosses security force (very few) you're limited to saturday night only which is better than last years gig.

My guess is, the overnighters will need to get there early.

I don't know what it costs as I have never had to pay. There are zero hookups and zero showers so bring an RV full of water and the generator gas tank full.

I've been told by a couple people that V-drive Video has boxes of literature, and might have some information about the Hondo GT deck like mine.

What I'm trying to find out is why it was done and about how many were built (jets vs v-drives)

I can't really answer either of these questions. I could only guess that the GT deck was mostly innovation. It eliminates the windshield and "looks" stronger than the tradition t-decks.

Again only guessing, I bet there were very few made compared to the standard T. In my travels your boat is the only jet I've ever seen ("in person") and I've seen no more than 20 v-drive flatbottoms with the GT deck.

I would try and contact James or Mike Brendell to find out for sure.
