I finally pulled the trigger, and just in time for the weekend.

That thing's a beauty! Too bad for me it's about 10 years to new putting it out of my price range.

Have you seen some of the outrageous colors of boats... That boats pulls it off great! And the name pulls it all together.
That is a boat up the street from me that is all orange! Literally everything is orange, and it was named "Orang-ya Jealous". It's got waaay to much going on but I would totally rock it.

I agree with you that a boat is one of the few places a guy can get away with an outrageous color combo but...purple and pink is where I draw the line.

I'm totally down for blue, green, orange, maybe yellow, some reds are cool but purple/pink is a no go, the wife doesn't even like it. I won't deny that the boat above does pull it off very well, enough to get me to make the phone call but I couldn't spend 10 G's on it.

I'm just waiting for the right boat at the right price. I got a new truck this year and I want something that'll look good behind this thing...

I talked to that guy yesterday, he says he just dumped a bunch of money into it (new interior, stereo, powered coat) but his wife wants him to sell it. He's in Ontario but the boat is in Havasu at his parents place.

He's seems pretty reasonable about price and someone could get a pretty good deal on it but I just can't see myself towing around a plum and pink boat.

So tempting...

Hey guys, thanks again for all the help. I met up with Wes at his house yesterday and he did an excellent job of selling me on a Carrera! Seriously though his boat is sick and it was great getting to compare the Eliminator and Carrera side by side.

Steve, I really appreciate your input. I've considered that in both the river/lake boating world and the ocean boating world that a majority of boats have out drives. I'm sure their benefits outweigh their flaws. To be honest though I don't envision an outdrive when I dream about getting a classic river boat. If I were to get something other than a jet I'd probably go with something along these lines...

As stupid as it may sound, I want to be able to throw big fatty rooster tails. I also look forward to learning how to drive a jet. My little whaler is about the easiest boat I've ever driven with the outboard. My direct drive ski boats would always swing the ass end starboard in reverse and I enjoyed learning how to master that. Though I'm leaning towards the jet right now, I'm sure I'll eventually end up with a v drive as well just to check it off the list.

I've never done really long runs in my previous boats. I've spent plenty of time on both Havasu and Mojave but I enjoy the moving water in the river much more and that's what I want the new boat for.

There's so many options it's probably going to come down to the best deal.

I've been around boats a while now but I have no experience with jets. I've had a couple of Master Crafts that I've gotten rid of and now I have an old Boston Whaler that I fish the coast in. I haven't been anywhere on the colorado river in at least 4 years and I'm jonesing bad. I don't have much interest in a ski boat again and I've always admired the flat bottom jets and v drives that would haul ass on the early morning and late afternoon glass.

I literally have no experience with a jet boat and unfortunately I've never even ridden in one. I've been reading through the archives trying to learn but I'm hoping you guys can give me a little direction on what I should be looking for as I begin my search for a boat.

Ideally, I'd like an open bow boat so I can bring a couple more people with me. I'd like something closer to the reliable side of the spectrum than the performance side until I get some experience. I'd also like to end up with a reputable hull even if I have to put some money into the gel coat and interior to get it looking good.

I've got a budget around 10 grand but there's so many option out there, I want to make an educated decision. I'm in Lake Elsinore so if there's any one around here that wants to hang out and talk boats I'll bring a 6 pack over. Hopefully I'll be back on the river this summer.
