Jet Pumps / Jg pump problems
« on: February 05, 2020, 04:22:53 PM »
Getting ready for the burley Idaho race was checking  my pump out ,the input shaft seemed to move back and fourth about a 1/2 inch and it spins pretty freely the impeller sounds like a tin can noise,  talked to George at ars marine he built the pump  said it might sound like the thrust bearing , pumps only 3 yrs old after a 3000 dollar rebuild real bummed , last year blew 2 motors one my brand new stroker motor broke in the first 20 minutes  had a roller lifter fail ,brand new everything  , took out the block and camshaft  and then scrambled to get my back up motor fixed that had a blown head gasket  then after the swaps lasted until late August  then blew another head gasket now I get to pull the pump and send it back to George  this really sucks , but I'm not quitting!! 😠

Thanks for the information really appreciate it,  I did forget to mention  that yes the pump does have a inducer , I was told that I could put a water pressure  gauge on the pump to see what psi , and what type of oil cooler would you recommend  I see a lot of Dan Olsen coolers used , I do not have a pressure  valve for my water , there is a ball valve on the inlet  and out so I can control temp that way  , I do have a old Berkley rudder that attaches to the pump but it's huge looks like a rudder to a battleship I'll trim it to fit it looks like it will hit my ride plate now , do you know how big the race course is at Burley or Parker? 1/2 mile ?  Speeds for comp jet? Just curious 😎thanks

Thank for your info very much appreciated,  I will get pictures tonight when I get to the shop, I have 2 fins I pulled off a flatbottom  v drive  one is bronze the other aluminum  probably  not something  I should use  as far as the pump it was set up by George at ARS it has a stainless impeller and an inducer, blueprinted bowl , the clean out has been welded longer to take out cavitation  and has a loader scoop for the intake , I do have a droop snoot and a new nozzle with the red insert and a ride plate I made about 24inches long ,I do not have a shoe the sanger came from the factory  with a small plate so I made a longer one , I was doing some bouy to bouy practice at my river I run at the boat seems to slide a lot in the turn when I give it full own it digs and turns but sometimes  hops and I spin out with tons of water in the boat will the fin help with the hop or dig more and flip , also what about an oil cooler drag racing I didn't need one thank you Bob really want to be competitive  but most of all Safe😎

Boat Racing / Comp jet racing
« on: January 20, 2020, 10:17:15 AM »
Fellow comp jet racers , going to compete at Burley and Parker this year , need some info please I've run my boat pretty hard for the last 10 yrs , on my 5th  motor 2nd pump , but need to set the boat up right , I do not have a turning fin , where do you put it so it
Doesn't interfere with the water flow to the  pump intake,  boat slides a lot  then hops if cranking to hard , i do have cav plates to install but dont want to rob them off my Rogers Dragstar, The boat i have is a Sanger superjet   so using my divereter with a stop is all i got for now going to make more changes with steering and setback seat ,center imco fuel tank and other mods  unless someone has a rogers set up for sale less motor? not a lot of circle racing up here in Washington  just want to be competitive anyone with any info would be awsome!! Thanks

Ok thank you ,do you race comp jet ?  Not sure about a lot of things about circle racing , I drag race my boat but the oil doesn't get hot enough  for a oil  cooler ,  I do run my boat pretty hard I have an oil temp doesn't seem to get to hot though, any more  2 cents would be great thanks

Here are a few pics of my sanger and one of my Dragstar tunnel , the tunnel doest have a diverter but cav plates like v drive I will be putting the droop on the tunnel to test and the straight  snoot too , again there are a lot of people on here with more experience than me and hopefully will chime in,The best thing is you got a cool boat and hauling ass on the water is awesome!!😎

Well my experience  is limited to non tunnel boats, I do have a Rogers Dragstar it is a tunnel it didn't have a droop but it did  have a ride plate  and a loader scoop I haven't been able to run it yet it's being rebuilt as we text , I will tell you that the ride plate on my sanger and a droop did  help  as well as the loader scoop but that's my boat , I have talked to Duanne at Hi - Tech jet performance  back east , he make,s a straight snoot I haven't bought one yet to try but I will ,he says the straight doesn't push the back of the boat down but more forward and doest bend the water twice all things I'm still learning I'm no expert but there,s alot of guys on here that know more than I do but I do know that you can have all the horsepower  in the world , but if you don't set up the pump right you won't go as fast as you could, Tom at jet boat performance  has helped me out alot, great guy , give him a call, hope this helped out😎

« on: January 13, 2020, 05:30:34 PM »
Last June my good friend  Gregg asked me to help with his brother Steve's boat he'd had passed away and left Gregg with a 82 sanger flatbottom  , I said yes and before I knew it I was delivered a nice freshly painted flatbottom with no motor a bent propshaft,no steering, no gauges , a v drive put together backwards and 10 boxes of parts after months of calling about parts asking a million questions of what goes where and how and nites falling asleep at the shop  we have finally put it back together I didn't know much about v drives but now I do!  This is one for Steve hauling ass upstairs where the waters always flat and the beer always cold😎

Ok , thanks for the info , as I was looking more into the boat was really blown away that some joker put duct tape  on the inside of the cracked  fiberglass , so I m going to tear apart everything and cap the boat and do some more repair and get it done right , guess I'm running  my sanger another summer , I'll have more pics of the rebuild soon 😎

I run a sanger superjet with a droop snoot and ride plate and manual  diverter  I leave the line with the diverter all the way down and instantly  go 2 notches  up  and leave it there the whole ride , I played with it a few times and for me this was the best for mph and et  ,with the diverter all the way up I  scrubbed speed ,I agree  with everyone else you half to play with it and find the sweet spot😎
