It all depends on personal choice and the particular needs of your motor. I'm not well versed when it comes to the 455 but I do know that the oiling system in those motors can be a bit problematic. Everyone I know that owns a boat runs a bbc including myself. We all use 20w50 One guy runs Castrol GTX. Another guy runs Valvoline VR1. And yet another guy I know runs the Pep Boys house brand. I use Royal Purple and my motor seems to be okay with it. At my shop we stock 15w40 for Diesel and very high mielage engines only.

The torque thing is just a theory that comes to mind. I have no proof one way or the other. All I know is that no matter which still I choose< they'll make more power over my logs and snails. I haden't thought about clearance. I have a 19' Rogers and I have no idea how it compares in size to a Hondo. I have some grainy pics of when the boat was new and it had Bassetts on it at the time. Hopefully I can figure out what style they were.

I've been looking at used over the transom headers for my BBC and I'm a little confused. The two brands I'm interested in are Rewarder and Bassett and I've seen the word term "twisty style" used on several occasions. Some of the headers I've seen are listed as twisty style and others are not. Honestly, they all look the same. Is there a difference between twisty and non-twisty or are they all the same?

The weather has been preety crappy this week. Hopefully it's better this weekend. I went to Castaic 2 weeks ago and the lake was closed because of the high winds. I'm definitely going Sunday w/ the wife. However, it'll be her first time on the boat while pregnant. We'll see how that goes...

It's all about enforcing it. If you don't act stupid or are putting your self or other boaters in danger, you should be fine.

I wasn't acting stupid or putting other boaters in danger. The first time I got stopped was because my boat has AZ registration and fish & game needed to inspect my bilge for muscles. Sounds like theres a bit of a problem with boaters bringing them into California lakes. The second time I got stopped was because I was gettin on the motor a bit hard. I was in the process of dialing my carb in and I was having some issues while the motor was under load. I'll be back at Castaic again this Saturday.

Speeding trap there?

I have no idea. They came outta nowhere! Pulled us for speeding amongst other things. They ended up inspecting our boats and running our registrations. Didn't end up citing us though which is pretty cool.

We finally figured it out. It's a Sprint. Not much info on Halletts out there.

My buddy asked me to post some pics of his Hallett. He's not a member and he'd like to know what model Hallett does he own. He's had it for about 1.5 years now. It is a '78 and the length is 19'

Took the Rogers out for some testing this morning. Arrived at Castaic at about 07:30 This is my first time taking this boat out and the first time that she has seen water in about 5 or 6 years. Ran pretty good, as I still need to play around with the carb and timing a little. Noticed some water leaks from the right side swim step bolts and left side exhaust opening (thru the transom) Overall, I'm very happy. All the work I did really paid off. Here are some pics.

After 4 months of working on the Rogers, I can finally say that she's all done. Planing on talking her out for the first time next Friday. I had set a deadline of 04/31/2011 and it looks like I made it. All I need to do is wash the exterior and clean up the interior. Planing on hitting the carpet with an extractor on Sunday. Theses passed 4 months have been bitter sweet. I bought this boat not knowing what I was in for. Lots of cuts and bruises. Lots of sleepless nights. She almost brought me to tears on a few occasions. I've learned so much about jet boats and thanks to everyone who answered all of my technical questions. I posted up some pics of the fuel switching valve I had installed and the new trailer wheels. I'll post picture of her in water next weekend.
