metal side goes toward heads. run the engine through a complete heat cycle and then retorque the header bolts after cool down. I followed this and no leaks or loose bolts. I plan to run copper when I change headers, but the paper/metal gasket came with the rebuild kit so I used them.

Damn, i need a puke tank...

2sav ::)
x2 I'm running those k&n style breathers, man what a mess they make. I think I might try the scrunchie idea with some conventional breathers till I can do the puke tank.

Lemons didn't work. But woke up this morning and it's pretty much gone. I will try mustard and vinegar if it happens again. I think I'll go back to wearing gloves.

And remind me not to go camping with you pyros lol. Not because I'd be scared but because I'd probably be the one standing next to you saying no, no, more black powder!!!  :screwy: :screwy:

Anyone got a quick fix to get the smell of gas off my hands. Replaced needle & seat and made a big mess lol  :banghead:. Now washed hands twice with no luck. I usually wear gloves but wasn't thinking lol. I know what a wussy wearing gloves. But got in the habit from when I was a full time mechanic and soap was drying out my hands to the point of bleeding.

Okay, just got email from Rhino Lining with a rough quote of $2500 to do inside and out. Rough inside, smooth on outside (hull deck and bottom). Very tempting. I'm still leaning towards having PW Tony's dad shoot it with paint though and then getting some blue chrome flames from Brad.

The No Wake Zone / My day sucked but then got better!
« on: June 01, 2008, 08:14:47 PM »
Ok, started the day out loading the boat. Got all the way to Fisher's and got in. Fired it up, ran for 3 seconds then died. Cranked it a bunch finally got it to run, but only at higher rpms. Sputtering at idle with heavy black smoke. I already know what's wrong so I tell Sue that's it and hook her back up to the trailor and pull her out. Start to pull out and realize boat is way off on the trailer. I back her back into the water and straighten her out. Then pull out and up to the prep area. I pull off the scoop and turn on the pump and sure enough, dumping gas. Great, needle and seat. I check my tool bag and no 5/8 wrench or screw driver. So off to home we go. I go to checker's. They want me to buy a whole rebuild kit. Not happening. The other checker's has the part but by this time it's already 1pm so we park the boat and unload it and go to the theater and see Iron Man (which was pretty good). I get home and all of the sudden my stomach starts gurgling. Oh man, what else!!! So 100 trips to the restroom later and I get a call from one of my work buddies. He tells me the results from the Sergeant's test are in. I go look up my score and I passed. I got 88%, so I go to see where that puts me on the list. It takes forever to get to the page. I finally find 88% on the list. 1st rank....wait did I see that right, pull the window with my score back up. Yep, 1st rank. Only 18 people in whole state got 1st rank!!! I'm stoked, start calling my parents and my son and give them the great news. Well guess the day isn't so bad afterall. Dang, got to run to the restroom again!  :banghead:

Fisher's so much easier (and free). Martinez is all jacked up right now, plus ramp is steeper.

Vette 7 speed is a pos. Good for anemic small blocks under 300hp. It is a crappy 4 speed with an overdrive unit built into the output shaft casing. Better off getting a muncie or better yet a hemi 4 speed and adding on a gear vender's od unit. A cheaper way to go is with the t-5 if you don't have much hp or fork out the cash for the Tremec TKO 500 or 650. Or if you have gigabucks, drop in a Lenco. Nothing looks as nice as 4 sticks sticking up through the trans tunnel!!!

I'm all for launching from Fishers and going up to the second sandbar. It's about 3-5 miles upriver past the "no ski upriver" buoys. I can get out there early and start setting up?

The one I'm looking for pictures of is a flatty named "Dirty Old Men Need Love 2". That was one sick flatty back in the 70's. It had a sick paint job and beautiful wood flooring. One that I'd like to find again was a friend of the family's sick blown flatty that he used to run near needles. I think it was the "Black Bitch". He flipped it a few times there too.

August works for me, I'll be there almost every weekend. There are a couple of new motels/hotels in Yuma so if anyone needs numbers let me know and I can get them for you. There is a new one on Fortuna right next to Pizza Hut. Also if anyone needs race gas, there is a Loves truck stop that sells it for $5.99 a gallon. Fisher's fills up fast and Martinez is all jacked up, so like Marc said start booking soon.
