I picked this up for the pump and trailer, so if anyone wants the hull come get it. Its a bare hull (nothing in it, and no trailer), measures 16' 6", has title and current reg. Its been painted (ugly) and needs some touch ups (alot) or new paint. But so far it looks like a solid hull. I'm pulling it apart tomarow and I'll post pics if anyone is interested. Located in the Fresno/Clovis area (central CA).

It is in and running strong. 42mph on all original '76 Berkeley pump w A impeller and one piece bowl. Now comes th jet modifications. Our other friend is running 69mph on GPS w pump mods. I hurt my back pretty bad so I haven't been able t get out to it and try to take smaller pics. As for ignition, its using a MSD6A. Marvin has th timing details and jetting info.
So your useing this and the stock coil on plug system ?

Drain it, change the oil, and dont start the motor before you do. The oil pump pick up is in the bottom of the pan, the first thing it will pump through your motor is that milkshake.

Depends on you point of view. Heavy = thick, strong, but heavy. Good cruiser / lake boat. They made 4 versions as far as lay up, H = heavy, M = medium, L = light, and SL = super light. SL was only for the race boats.
There was also many different lengths of Sangers, 17' 10", 18' 3", 18' 6", 18' 10", etc, etc. As well as different bottom designs among the "flats". There where true flats, runner bottoms, and the gullwing. That one looks to be a true flat.
Hers an idea for you. Sense you going to chop the bottom off and build a jet friendly bottom, why not get creative and build it into a tunnel hull ?
And as far as that JE pump you have,
You would be way better of finding a "normal" pump. That insert pump is going to turn into a real pain in the azz to get right. You might get ahold of Tom over at Jet boat Performance though. Maybe the next time he chops up a boat to replace one of those things with a standard pump set up, he can save you the insert section. He might even a section sitting in the trash pile. 141

Well I can tell you this. What you have is a 1973 Sanger flatbottom, and its a heavy layup. First three letters of the HIN make it a Sanger (san), the h makes it a heavy layup and the last to numbers are the year, 73.

Thought I had a handle on this pool thing over the last couple years, but apparently, I'm wrong, and Leslie's is only interested in selling me worthless crap!
Saturday, shallow end started to look a little green (water tested fine, but I'm an idiot), so I swept it down good, shocked it with 4 bags (30,000 gallon), turned the pump on all day/night. Seemed fine later. Sunday morning, looked about the same, so I threw half a quart bottle of Copper Algeacide in as well as another 4 bags of shock and turned the pump on......again........left it run all night, Monday, looked better, took a sample to Leslie they sold me a half gallon of this "pool Bright" said put 2 cups in, and I did. But was at the shop most of the day...........yesterday..........looked just as bad......So today, this morning, well, looked like a septic tank in there! Noone other than me occasionally has been in it in 2 months.
So I got pissed off today and absolutely nuked it! I put in a full 5 gallon bucket of shock (43 lbs), a half gallon of copper algea killer, and a half gallon of this "pool brite" PH balance stuff. It's been running non-stop since 10 this morning, looking blue, starting to clear up (I can see the bottom kinda), but gotta go to the garage or out front to have a smoke because the chlorine fumes even on the patio burn my eyes............ I''d step in but I think it might eat my flesh at this point.........
What do I do now?

Hook a hose to the pump and drain that swamp in into the street in the middle of the night (when you neighbors are asleep). Then just fill it with clean/new water.

I think your having a hard time understanding the cost of a good (usefull) plate system. Theres alot more to it than just a couple plates. For a good (usefull) system you will need the plates, mounting blocks to mount the plates to the transom (or recess the bottom of the boat for the plates), turnbuckles, cross bars to tie all the turnbuckles together, the control rods that go through the hull, another cross bar to tie both sides together, another rod going up front, and finally a handle / pedal system, as well as LOTS of little parts along the way to make it all work. Lots of work and lots of money in parts.
It will look something like this, but be two seperate smaller plates.
With a good system (like above) you would be able to adjust the boats ride angle from the drivers seat. Plates down to drop the bow slow the boat and get it set for a turn, plates slightly up to let it fly. Not something a lake jet boat really needs unless its a bad hull design to start with, and yours is not a bad design.
A basic plate set up with no way to adjust in from the drivers seat. Is a pain in the azz and should only be added if the boat has issues that cant be solved with normal set up work (bad porpoising, etc). It will be set in one position and your stuck with that position.

The boat is not ready for a trip like that. Its only been on the water once, and I trust that BBC about as far as I could throw it. I would love to go, but its a recipe for disaster.
