The No Wake Zone / Re: Hallet hull with trailer $200
« on: May 19, 2007, 05:30:30 PM »
well I look at it this way. I can go buy a $4000-$5000 boat turnkey. It will still not be "perfect" and I am buying the word of the seller on the motor, pump, parts condition, worth, and whoever built it actually know what they were doing. Like I said before THIS IS NOT A MONEY THING it is a fun project with a great outcome if done with patience and the right combination of parts. I think Beerjet was commenting that he does not even know what his engine has as far as internals. (sorry if I quoted the wrong person). My Tahiti cost me $600 with full stringers and a brand new pump with reciepts. I am up to $6000 with fiberglass, and engine so far but..... it is all brand new and I either did it myself or am having a professinal do things in front of me. I have the reciepts, the build sheets etc. and I do not plan to sell for a very long time. So the project is a beautiful turn key reliable boat that I know the complete history of I feel better about traveling and having people and friends enjoy the boat if I am far from home etc. My interoir will be brand new, engine brand new and pump. If I get 5-10 years of family enjoyment with a boat that I built myself the extra money for having a fresh ride built my way does not matter. I am sure that there are better conditon of hulls than that Hallet but it is a classic hallet that people would appreciate and like alot if completed correctly. I guess I look long term instead of immediate financial aspect when I see a boat like that.

The 4- 5 thousand range in jet boats typically has nothing to offer but crap. By the time you are done with a 4 thousand dollar gem you will have 9 grand in it. The best way to buy a boat and not loose your ass is to spend the money first. Buy from reputable people and perferably buy a boat that you know the history on.
A boat like that Hallet will soak the money out of you more so than if you bought one that's already done. I'm talking a quality one in the 10,000 plus range.
The good thing about buying a beater boat (such as the Hallet) is that you can spend the money at your own pace. This seams to be easier for some people rather than saving for it. Sad thing is that you have to spend a few summers on the beach until your project is done  :-\

I think that there is more involved in just moving the salvagable parts. What about your time spent in picking up the hull, removing the parts, being available for would be buyers? The gas used to transport the boat home etc. It all adds up. This is of course if nothing goes wrong bringing the heap home (such as trailer problems, tickets for non working lights etc)
All that shit in hopes for a 200 dollar profit. No thanks, I'd pass too.

200 dollar boats are money pits that will cost you 5 times the amount of buying a boat that is already done.

The group doesn't exist because what you have is not considered a "problem". I consider it an achievment.
Good job  ;D ;)

what fuel pump do you have? Usually a bad coil won't even allow it to fire at all.

thanks for the good karma brad its easy to pick on those chebby guys theere so sensitive :-*
I pay no attention to it since I know it's all talk. Ford guys talk about being fast while the Chevy guys actually experience it. Best way to make a Ford powered jet boat run is to bolt a Chevy between the stringers.  ;)
