The No Wake Zone / Re: Damn Whistle Blower
« on: July 08, 2010, 09:37:38 PM »
Yah, My brother bought 11 acres with a house up here and I moved in while he was working down south. He lives like 400 yards from a elementry school with a CalFire station next to it.. You think whistles and kids screaming is bad? Ever heard the loud ass noice the fire dispatch radio makes? Sounds like someones using dial up internet but LOUD followed by the lady screaming about the fire. This is once every 10 minutes or so. Be happy with the whistle! Cant really help out much with the parking.. Living this far from people nobody ever parks in the driveway. We do have some pretty cool tweakers running around at night though.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Mounting steel tanks
« on: June 28, 2010, 09:22:22 PM »
Yah, One pictures the left tank and ones the right. Only time will tell if my lack of fiberglassing skills will be a problem or not. We usually use PPG paints, get it for a good price. Im kind of worried about how it will hold up to gas/oil spills. I know my boats, NOTHINGS clean around me. Thanks for the link, Ill have to see what the PPG rep says about marine apps to decide what way Im headed with paint.

Well, Just walked in from finishing the glass on the tanks and stringers. I feel really comfortable with the wood and straps holding the tanks, they feel REALLY solid. Damn things are there for the long haul now! Looks like I just gotta throw in the bulkhead and paint/carpet and Im back to the point where I was when I bought the damn thing!! Im thinking just a black single stage for the bilge area, any sugestions on cool ideas? Maybe carpet the sides between the hull and stringers? Heres a few pictures of todays progress. And yes, I over glass EVERYTHING! I have a problem...  ;D

Blocks are a great idea! Im going to try and get the tanks done tomorrow. Anyone else have ideas? Would 2x2 blocks of wood work? Im not TOO worried about looks because I have some upholstered panels that cover the tank. Im more worried about the tanks falling out in rough water. Im a pro gas tank welder these days! Always exciting to weld on tanks though..

Whats the best way to mount saddle tanks? When I got the boat they just had mat glassed like bands over the front and top of the tank in 3 places. Is this pretty comon? I think its about my only option other than welding some flat stock onto the tanks and glassing the flat stock to the hull.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Engine Tune Up
« on: June 24, 2010, 12:38:22 PM »
Been there! Done that. Im the youngest, big brother loved having me check spark on his dirt bikes growing up. I stopped that when he had me test the 72 bronco. Well, I threw new plugs in her.. still running rough. I did find out that the squiter for the secondarys had some crap in it and wasnt working. Float level was too high. On the pavement it was fine, but if you were to shake the boat even a little gas would overflow into the carb. That was my main problem while running I think. Also found that my distributor cap was broken. The post that comes in from the coil was broken off so the spark had to jump. She runs great on the hose (like usual) so Ill have to take her out and see what the lake does. Thanks for the ideas!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Engine Tune Up
« on: June 21, 2010, 07:03:28 PM »
So I took the V-Drive to the lake the last few weekends cause my jet is nowhere near being ready for the water. This last time the 390 had a pretty bad miss at high RPMs and wasnt really wanting to idle. I decided it was time for a tune up before next weekend to see if that helps her out any. So Im doing the standard plugs and wires and hitting her with a timing light. What else should I be checking or replacing? I know its hard to take a guess with such little info about the miss, but it has fresh gas on a newly rebuild carb. Any general ideas? Thanks!

The No Wake Zone / Re: What would you pay? 60s flat bottom.
« on: June 14, 2010, 08:31:30 PM »
It looks like a damn tank in the pictures. And honestly, my luck with these "deals" has completly broke my bank and I have nothing to show for it but a blown up motor and a boat with half a floor! The guy wants to trade some crap I have sitting around for it, thats the only reason Id consider getting it. Is the motor worth anything?

Just curious as to what you guys think this boat is worth? Worse case senario I would rob the motor and cut up the hull. Says its a 458 Pontiac with trans am 400 heads. Claims over 400 HP. Last in the water last year, current reg and pinks for boat and trailer. Needs the starter hooked up, new coil, and water lines. Looks like I could atleast part it out for a few hundred right?
