Hulls / Re: Strake repair
« on: February 02, 2013, 11:24:34 PM »
The damage is where the chisel is laying in the bilage. It's weird the entire strake is hollow? I used a bore snake with a camera to look inside and sure enough it is. And there's no way the other patch was water tight and I made 4 trips to the lake with no leaks other than the packing seal on the jet. It's like the hull was laid then preformed strikes were laid on later, is that possible?

Thanks for the offer gt but I'm gonna see what I can do with this.

Well im crying inside little. Although the hull itself isn't pierced the strake is. Just spend the last 2 hours slowly chipping away the patch and this is where im at

looks like it might have been used as the bilge drain plug.  does it fit in the transom adaptor plug hole?
actually it does and i did find a nut and washer that fits it

looks kinda like the mounts to a MSD box with one end broken off
just the one one stud on it

So im blasting out my hull with the pressure washer and this comes flying out from under the intake in the rear. Anything important or just something rolling around?

Nah just couldn't find a green I liked.  Only downside to this color is that its so bright it makes all the polished stuff look worse than it does. So now I need to find a polisher

I have read and searched on this subject and no one ever agrees. How ever an old neighbor of mine worked for Berkley in the 70-80's and he claims to have broken in many a motors on the trailer with no problems hooked up. He claimed "if the impeller has enough  room to wiggle and wipe out the wear ring it was time for a rebuild anyways." But even he suggested to me that while running on the trailer run a hose hook up that feeds the pump and motor through the water pick up in the boat and to stick another hose into the steering nozzle and crank it.

Myself, I do what he suggests but never run longer than a few mins and try to hose out the pump before I fire it. Only time I have ever fired a jet boat dry is at the gas station after I fill the tanks and its just on and off to make sure it runs.

From what I understand the Volvo outdrives are pretty stout. But a cracked block no thanks. If its 400 drop in with all the electronic fuel equip id pick it up and get a new block and swap.

Trying to decide on a green but if not im goin silver. The left is leaf green, middle is grabber green and the right is a metallic green from duplicolor.

well the engine dictates the color. if its an olds , its red or blue.  if its chevy its orange. ford is blue!

Yah but the boats green with black interior. Im leaning to grabber green but still got time to think.

Gonna flip the hull and check out the bottom and practice my color matching skills on the bottom repairs before I try on the bow.

So im getting ready to pull the motor and clean it up and repaint it. Just can't figure a color. Don't really want to paint it black again but can't decide what color would go with the green on the boat, what do you guys think?
